How do you clean your sheepskin mitts?

I just received my package and used one of my sheepskin mitts on a really dirty car. After I was done using it, I tried to thoroughly rinse it and hang dry. It was obvious there were some black marks in the sheepskin that wont rinse out, seems to have stained it black or just wont wash out. Im afraid there are fine particles of dirt and grime in the mitt thats going to end up swirling the car all over. How should I properly clean it?

I leave it sitting on top of the grit guard with the soapy water level surrounding it (this is the rinse bucket, not the soap bucket though). This seems to loosen micro-grit over time and by next week (or later), the stuff is gone.

Here's another thing I do during the car wash - after going over a soapy panel, I rub the mitt on the grit guard to loosen whatever debris I've picked up (the water level is slightly above the grit guard). Then I hose the mitt down (outside of the bucket) to spray off any additional debris that are still caught in the fibers. It's kind of an "extra guarantee" to help ensure a clean mitt.

I found success by spraying Eagle One Bucket Free Car Wash onto the wet mit, then working the product in by rubbing with my fingers, and then blasting high velosity water from my garden hose until all the suds are gone. Repeat on other side of mit. The Bucket Free Car Wash is worthless (IMO) for its intended use, but works great as sheepskin mit cleaner!

i put mine through a machine wash after every use and hang on a horizontal rod to air dry.

all free or tide free. I wait until I have a few to wash and only wash the sheepskins together in on a small load.

I put mine in the washing machine using the gentle cycle and a small amount of woolite, then hang on a clothes line in the garage w/ a small fan blowing in that direction.

I also wash mine in the washing machine on hot. Then I turn 'em inside out and toss 'em in the dryer. This dries the skin faster. I dry on low though and they come out slightly damp. Then I turn 'em right side out and hang to dry that last bit.

The fall apart eventually, but that's just how it goes.

Are those powder or liquid detergents? I only have 2 mitts, seems so little to wash in my washer :D

I put a small amount of woollite on both sides of the mitt. Massage the woollite with fngers and my hand together with some cold tap water until the mitt is all covered with suds. in about 1-2 minutes you see that the suds turn pretty dark, then I start rinsing it in the sink under cold water. Repeat if needed. I always end up with a mitt that looks like brand new. Total process takes about 5 min. I put it in the dryer for some time under low heat and then hang dry it after most of the water is extracted from the mitt.
