How do you clean vents?

Hey everyone just wanted to see what you guys use to clean vents and other little cracks. I have a little dusting brush that came with a detaling brush set and it works alright, but I was wondering if an investment on an air compressor would be worth it. I would also use it to blow the water around the door handles and stuff after I wash the car. Do the air compressors work well in taking off tough dust in the vents and such? Or do foam swabs work better? Or should I just stick with my little dust brush?

<rhetorical> and where will the dust go?!

I use a megs detail (or small paint) brush alongside a vaccum cleaner wand.

If you have money to burn, get a compressor - but I think it's optional.

That's why I seldom use the steamer for vents. I reach as far as I can with swabs dampened with something (cleaner, QD, dressing, whatever).

And yeah, I use the compressor to get water out of nooks and crannies *every* time I wash :xyxthumbs

I gotta try that. Sounds good, and with a one year old baby girl, we have plenty of Kirkland Baby Wipes.

Supe,

Remember, they aren't reusable.

Doo doo in the vents is bad news.

:soscared:

I've never heard of using steam before to get dust out of tough areas. How does that work? That's something I'd like to try.

I use steam :D Gets ALL the dust out...

Where does the dust/etc. go when you do this?

When I do it, it seems that the dust/etc. just gets blasted down into the ductwork; it's still in there, just upstream from the vents. I don't like the idea of moist dust/dirt/whatever getting concentrated in the ductwork.

I spritz with dressing and then wipe with a thin MF around a flat head scredriver. For nasty vents, I spray a foaming APC, agitate with a brush, respray, and suck it out with a shop vac. This is actually one of the areas that I would like to improve on.

Does anyone do the back of the vents?

Aww...c'mon somebody has to use one of those Tornader widgets. I think they look amazing. However I fear that they must not be all the add sets you up to believe. Anyone?

There's bee a few threads about the Tornado thingy. IIRC, there were a few guys that really liked them. Seems like they were kinda pricey for what they do, though.

The steam lifts it off the surface and just blows it into the dash/plumbing. There's not enough dust just around the cracks of the vents to hurt anything... there's dust already behind every dash (I've taken mine apart before I ever used steam to clean the vents, and it was pretty thick). Dust is gonna accumulate in un-touched areas no matter what, but not enough to hurt any components.
