how do you clean side steps???

ok i have an '05 chevy suburban with the Z71 package. i dont have the traditional running boards on my truck like most of the suburbans. because of the Z71 package it has black painted side steps. i am not sure how you go about cleanning these and what i can and canot use on them. if anyone has has experiance with cleanning these please let me know what to do as i am afraid to put something on them that will stain them. if your not sure what i am talking about let me know and i will atach a picture of them so that you can see what i mean. thanks for all your help :grinno:
 
If they are painted just use what you use on the rest of the vehicle paint. A pic would help though. :)

sorry it took so long it took me a few trys to figure out how to add pictures on here.let me know if you know what would work on these to clean them
