how do you check your progress???

I prefer not working in direct sunlight (even with Clearkote or PB products). My preference would obviously be a garage or a pop up tent. I have a hand held dual halogen light that I can use in garages without halogen (or xenon) lights. Do you guys have special lights on stands, do use only use the gun like me, or do you just work in sunlight. If you leave something behind, it runs such a greater chance of drying to the surface of the car.

The reason I am asking is that I did my RSX Type-S the other day for 6 hours in my garage (without cool lights) and it looked flawless, but when I pulled it out to vacuum it...swirl city, or more than I thought should have been there after the time I spent. What solutions/techniques do you guys use. Also, my preference would not be to keep pulling it up into and backing it out of a garage.

Thanks guys!

I really have found no other way than direct sunlight to truly reveal what is going on with regards to paint correction. Like you said, it will look great under almost any kind of lighting, but when the sun hits it it's another story.

I've got 2 500watt halogen lights on a tripod that I got from Home Depot for like $29. I find that works good at revealing swirls. I have to move the lights around a bit to make sure I got the area I was working on but it's better than workin in this Louisiana heat and sun.

go to pepboys and get this, it's a great deal for $34.99!

RP,

Do the pep boys lights look like yours from Home Depot? I may get them at HD because I'll most likely be getting a Rigid vac. Also, do you do paid details in Baton Rouge. I'm from Lafayette, but lived in Baton Rouge for the last year. With the explosion in population, I kinda wish I was still there since I've taken up my new side job/hobby. Baton Rouge gained almost 500k people since the hurricane. Many, many more people with higher end cars and more money. I love Lafayette, but there are so many fake *** wanna be ballers out here...stingy mofo's.

Hey RSX,

Nice to see a fellow Louisianian. Yup my light looks pretty much just like the yellow one in the post except it's red.

Yup I've started doing paid details as a hobby/side job type thing. I've done about 7 or 8 cars so far. Mostly for people I know or friends of people I know. It's such a tough job that I only like to do one car every week or every other week. Well down here you have to deal with all this damn traffic. Thankfully they are expanding Airline Hwy. I still like BR though.

Halogens are great but you also should use incandecent light as it shows marks that halogens simply don't. I've polished black paint under halogen lights thinking it was perfect, only to have incandecent light reveal micro swirling.

I like to put some painters tape down one of the surface being polished. I will polish only one side to the left or right of the paint, take two halogens and point them on both sides of the surfaces to see what im getting rid of, and whats still there.

Left side is after OHC and a cutting pad, right side is untouched. As you can see, no more swirling on the left, just micro-marring.
