How do I treat my wheels???

I have a completely stock 2003 Passat GLS. I don't know what "material" my wheels are and, therefore, don't know how to care for them. How do I tell the difference between wheels? Does anybody else have a 2003 stock Passat GLS?

I'd find some of the orange A2Z at your local autopart store. That stuff is awesome on any wheels. I wouldn't guess that your wheels are more fragile than mine and it works great on mine. Cleans them right up faster than you can believe. Plus it won't mess up your calipers if any gets on em. Very fine stuff. I know people who use it on wheels much nicer than mine too.

Regardless of what it's made out of, A2Z is a really good (and strong) wheel cleaner. Hose on and rinse off ability (unless it's super dirty). Just follow the directions, do not let it dry on the wheel, and don't use it on windy days...

I like Simple Green all purpose cleaner. Just spray it on, leave it for a second, and wipe it off with a soft sponge. It really, really cleans up your wheels. Never put on any cleaner when the wheels are hot. They claim that Simple Green is safe for all finishes, and I have never had a problem other than you need to use a sponge to remove all the grime. Someone on here replyed to one of my posts when I first started saying it was to harsh. Anyone have any feed back on that???????

Simple Green is good as long as you use it as directed. Make sure you spray your wheels down so they are wet first. Wheels are one of the things that Simple Green doesn't need to be diluted for, but a little water on the wheels is a good idea anyway. I wouldn't use an all purpose cleaner if you are concerned about your rims. I'd use something more specific for wheels. That way if something goes wrong they can't come back at you with "Well, its not meant to be safe on all wheels. You should have used a wheel cleaner if you were worried." or something like that.

'Always use the right tool for the job' is what I always say. Right after someone points out I'm not using the right tool I just say, 'whatever works.' ;)

I have a 2002 Passat GLS with the 15" Wellington (9 spoke) wheels. Unless you have the steel wheels with hubcaps, your wheels are clear coated aluminum alloy (that's what all stock VW wheels are).

I have been using Eagle One A2Z wheel cleaner with great success. Just spray on, agitate a little with an old wash mitt or wheel brush and hose off. I do this first in my wash routine while the wheels are dry, then hose them off along with any overspray or spritzing that gets on the paint. As others have said, make sure the wheels are not hot and don't let the stuff sit too long as it's pretty strong

Once they are squeaky clean, I wold suggest putting on a coat of sealant like klasse or such. I have been using Einzett Glanz on my wheels and unless they are really dirty, I can actually just clean them with normal car shampoo and an old mitt.
