i have a '01 torch red vette, the car looks great. but when its parked in the sun and i walk around it purposly leaning down, and bending over, etc. looking for swirl marks sometimes i can catch a glipse of some from certain angles. im asuming its from using lousy towels, does this sound like something you would use a SMR for or is that overkill? i mean how bad is bad, when would you decide its time for a SMR? Thanks- Ja

I do not think that SMR is overkill,

it will not harm anything to try on an area and see if the result is good.

If those swirl marks are only vissible under certain light conditions and/or angles SMR should do the trick.

You will need to rewax that test-area

You will always be able to find light swirls, especially when your looking for them, am I making sense > even a extremely well done detail will yield light swirls and scratches, I dont care who does it. In other words, you cant get rid of them 101%, IMHO. You can get rid of the majority of it, and fill the rest, but I feel if you look hard enough, you still find some. I think your talking about those type of swirls ? By your referenced quote, I would just go with a light polish, maybe a glaze if you wanted, and seal/wax accodringly. SMR is made for defined swirl marks, not heavy swirls, but something in between (I think) what your talking about, and defined swirl marks......general prep polishes are less aggressive than SMR.
