How do I get rid of this?

New member
This idiot newbie apparently caught some SG residue under his towel and now has this mess. How do you suggest I repair it?



After washing it, I used alcohol/water, Meguiar's Swirl Remove, AIO, SGx2, and P21S.

Why did you go through all those steps if the defect wasn't removed. Anywho, a polish with a spot buffing pad or rotary should take care of it either way. I would start with the least aggressive polish I had with a polishing pad and work my way up to more aggressive products (more aggressive product before pad IMO). Start with something like a green pad and FPII or SSR 1. Then move ups to IP or SSR 2 and so on.

It happened toward the end (removing SG) and I really didn't notice the marks until too late. When I did, I thought they would be easy to remove. I was wrong. :rolleyes:

It's less a scratch than a smear into the AOI (if such a thing is possible). I too aggressively tried to get off the too-thick SG, catching a bit of residue in the cloth, I beleive.
 
What part of the car is showing in that picture?



You can feel them with your fingernail, so don't try to polish them out.
 
Here's my $.02



If you can feel them with your fingernail, then there is no way that residue from any sealant would have caused them. I'm guessing that some sort of abrasive contaminant fell onto your car before you removed the SG, or that your (microfiber?) towel had/has something embedded in it that caused the scratching. If you know which towel you used when the scratches occurred, I would think strongly about throwing it away rather than risk more scratching. Washing the towel may not remove whatever did that.



As for the scratches themselves, if you can feel them, then they are probably there for good. You can diminish them by buffing with a PC or rotary, but the only way to eliminate them is to repaint.



I really feel for you. That's a Porsche hood, right?

it looks like the hood of a porsche boxster.
 
But it did come out. I used Maguiar's Scratch X with an orange pad, followed with AOI/SG and P21S, and it looks a lot better.
