How Abrasive is DACP??

Going to take a crack at cleaning up some swirls on my friends custom black '04 Mustang GT this Friday, and probably (finally) do up the Mazda3 for its first 4 layer (AIO, SGx2, Stuff Wax), and if there's time we may take a crack at our green '94 Prelude SRV.

Before I start working on the 'Stang, I'm really wondering how abrasive DACP is... should I stock up on a lighter polish in-case of hazing? I was going to start with DACP w/white pad on the PC. Again, being unsure of its abrasiveness, is that too aggressive a combo for light-medium swirl removal?

For an idea of the swirls, my friend before I swatted him a few times with a rolled up newpaper, managed to sponge wash his car after he got his custom paint job.. new soft paint + sponge wash = nasty swirls. I told him I'd take a crack at it for him after the paint had cured properly, about a month and a half ago.

Been hunting through the forums, but I seem to see a lot of different answers to this question. Any clues?

Always start w/ the lowest abrasive polish first. I recommend trying a more mild polish, and it ia good to have some on hand because sometimes you can experience hazing w/ DACP. If you can get #80 speed glaze, try that first. On Meguiars scale of 1 to 10, #80 is 4 and DACP is 6 to give you an idea. Just my recommendation.

i dont think its very abrasive, maybe its me but it never worked for me. It works for minor scratchesbut for spiderwebs i usually go for the IP or ssr2.5, light cut. but other have had good results with it

I think that you'd be just fine with DACP, I've done a lot of cars with it and never had hazing. It is not very abrasive at all.

I've found that my results with it vary a lot depending on the type of paint I'm working on. I recently did a 95 integra and it got out pretty much all of the swirls and scratches, I was very impressed. Yesterday I did by brothers 91 beretta with very bad paint and it didn't seem to get out any swirls even though I worked it quite a lot.

So my suggestion is go with the DACP.

You mentioned this was a repaint. These are usually not as hard as factory and you might induce hazing with DACP. The best advice is to start with a mild product and if one or two passes don't remove the swirls to step up to a more aggressive one. Work a small 2'x2' area at a time and analyze the effectiveness of the product on the paint. I'd start with a product like #80 or #82.

This is the relative aggresiveness of things in the Meguiar's world...

#85 Diamond Cut = 10

#84 Compound Power Cleaner = 9

#4 Heavy-cut Cleaner = 8

#1 Medium-cut Cleaner = 7

#83 DACP = 6

#2 Fine-cut Cleaner = 5

#80 Speed Glaze = 4

#82 Swirl Free Polish = 3

#9 Swirl Remover 2.0 = 3

#3 Machine Glaze = 1

They don't list anything at the 2 rating that I know of. Maybe NXT would qualify. I dunno. Anyway, DACP is a 6 and pretty effective on most swirls.

Alright, so, I'll start with #80 on white pad and see how it turns out, if it doesn't clean up, i'll move to DACP with white, then possibly DACP with yellow if even that does not work.

Thanks guys.
