Hot tub water filter for spot-free washing?

woah, interesting product! They advertise spot free water so I am seriously interested in it. I've bookmarked the page and subscribed to this thread :)

Just post it up here, do a little review. If you have success I'll be ordering too.

Will do. Hopefully it's still warm enough here to use it when I get it. Otherwise it'll wait until spring.

I just bought one of these because I own a Hot Springs hot tub so I'll use it for both my tub and now I'll even try it on my car. It has a lot of capacity (8,000 gallons) so I will never use it up just filling my tub. Even if it does not do all that well on the car I will not have lost anything because I was thinking just a month ago of getting some sort of a pre-fill filter for my tub but just never got around to it.

Incidentally, these are $29.95 plus $3.95 shipping so that is very reasonable considering that the ones I checked out for my hot tub ran more than double that. To make it sweeter, you can get $10 off your order of this filter at the store linked by the OP if you apply the coupon code FRESH3, which brings the price down to $19.95. I can't beat this product at that price for my tub and if it also works on cars so much the better!

It figures the coupon would get posted after I already ordered :aww:

Good to know for future purposes though!

Can someone take TDS readings of the water after it's gone through the filter?

Will do.

This looks like its just a filter but not a softner or de-ionizer. So, while your water may be "cleaner", you would still get the same water spots everyone hates. Am I missing something?

charcoal that binds ions

That's what I'm thinking too which is why I want someone to take TDS readings. ;)

A large-pore filter with activated carbon/charcoal will extract chlorine from tap water. But, as far as I’m aware not Calcium or Magnesium ions, which are the main causes of ‘water spotting’.

However exchange ion resin lowers the concentration of calcium, which ‘softens’ tap water

As stated a total dissolved solids (TDS) reading would prove interesting

First, I'd like to offer a little background on myself. Before my current job, I was a licensed water distribution operator for a couple municipalities so I am aware of how to take and evaluate water samples.

With that said here are my findings. I first took samples from multiple sources at my place, inside and outside. They all read 115/116 TDS.

Pic of the read at the hose after flushing it out.

Flushing out the filter per directions.

I took a read and it was quite high so I allowed the water to run for an additional 15 minutes.

Final read...

I wasn't too surprised with my findings but I was hoping it would be a smaller version of a CR Spotless that could be used for a few final rinses.

Charlie, let me know what you find.
