Horrible Weekend

... I go in to work ONE day this week b/c I've been taking care of my mom. (She just had a hysterectomy)

My car got scraped @ work & the person ran. No biggie... I get home go to bed. (I work nights) My dad grabs my touch-up paint and puts the coats on very thick. Overflows are everywhere.

Here's the worse part... I wake up and walk outside to get my first good look of the damage and he's dry sanding it with 600 grit to level it!?!?!? Needless to say, I stopped him & washed everything off. I used some of meg's Scratch-X for a half our by hand... Not any better. Nothing... Extremly dull and all of the touch-up paint is still high...

What do I do?

I would go ahead tomorrow and break out the DACP with my PC. That worked very well on the swirls last time I did it, but I have a feeling that's not going to be enough.

*edit*

It was a 320 grit foam block FOLLOWED by 600 grit paper.

Ahhh, 600 grit...most compounds can only remove like 1500 grit marks tops... your best bet is wetsanding it down to 2500 grit (w/sanding block) paper, then compounding after that. Your clear coat is probably gone too.

Ok... This is a PITA. I'm getting closer to sanding everything flush with 2000 grit.

However, what on earth is going to get this marring out?

I don't know if DACP is going to fix this.

Toysrme,

Depending on how heavy your dad applied the paint, 2000 grit may not do the job. I would have started with 1,000 and finished with 2000. I don't see a problem with getting it to sand down and polish out. You might want to get a fine cut compound to use to remove the sanding scratches. It would take a while to do it with ScratchX.

Very heavy. I've been sanding with 800-1000-1500 for the last few days a couple min @ a time. 2000 was taking it down, but too slowly for my tastes.

For kicks and giggles, yesterday I hit it with some DACP on my PC. Bearly did anything to even the 2000 grit sanding marks.

Now I'm nowhere near leveling everything, but I figure right now is a good time to see if I can get most of it out. I don't want to run out of paint to polish!

10 min ago I hit it with two passes of diamond cut until it was powder. It only took around 6 min of PC use to do that. Everything but the 320 grit sanding marks from the first post have completely dissapeared in FULL SUN 3 feet away already!

I did alot of searching and never found a clear answer.

Yes, diamond cut works on my PC @ 6 with the oldest, harshest yellow CMA pad I own. (I did use it damp from cleaning it btw)

I'm so happy! I figure an hour everyday before work of wetsanding and I'll have it done in two weeks maybe? (That let's you know how bad it is. Keywords: Wetsand, Hour, Weeks)

I figured I'd take some pics on where I'm at now. The car has not been washed since I got hit... The dirt has been hiding everything so don't shoot me!

On the black car I use DACP-VM-CM. On the silver I use AIO-SG.

I also am parked in the shade somewhat right now. (yeah black+shade=GG) This is a very crappy Mavica camera also...

8in away. If you can't see this you're blind!

The obvious reply is the camera doesn't pick it up, but you really can't see anything from 3ft away. So I'm getting there!
