Horrible horrible black '89 RX7

Picked this up yesterday, paint is a nightmare, lots of deep swirling (I prolly only got 80% out right now) and the mirrors and hood are spraybombed black. Only did the right side of the car right now because I'm too tired and cold to do the rest. Didn't get any pics of the interior, but it was disgusting too, all my paper towels turned black from everything plastic that I touched.

Seems like nothing wanted to cut through it so I did what I could for now, its at least better than it was before. I'd estimate maybe 75% marr free now? Some parts could definitely use some wool...

why not go with something like megs 66 on a cutting pad to remove any oxidation, then hi temp on a orange pad, then SIP/IP/83, then step down properly? seems like you are off to a good start, but why did you wax before you are done polishing????

Mainly because I'm probably not gonna touch it again until the weather is good (aka a couple months at least). Its been raining every day lately and generally crappy weather and I don't even have time to finish it all at once either.

Got_Leather, I ain't getting paid anything, its my car lol.

great job so far. Would be nice to see it near defect free. Pick up some wool! I can't wait to try wool myself.

This is a perfect car to pratice with wool and/or a rotary. You really cannot do much more harm to it, unless you hold the rotary in place and burn it. Is the paint thin?

Great start. Consider some wool/4" pads or even a rotary for this type of thing. The good part is that it's your car so you can experiment with whatever you want. You definitely learn a lot with these types of projects.

I am using a rotary for this haha. I'll leave the finish work on this car till its nicer weather out...I've done enough experimenting over the last couple years for sure.

wow I thought my black rx7 was bad. I am going to attempt to do mine tommorow. I have been doing some practice on spare body parts.

Very impressive to say the least. I can't wait until you get better weather so we can see how you finish it down. I'll save the advice as it looks like your off to a great start!!!

Hurry up!!
