Home Made Wheel Cleaner - safe?

My alloys are currently sealed with PB Wheel Sealant (definately makes for an easier wash). Recently there have been some awful roadworks on my commute and I hate seeing my wheels getting tarred! In a quiet few minutes at work I decided to mix-up a mild cleaner of my own.

I used a mild industrial lens/glass cleaner mixed 1:15 or so with lukewarm water... and I hope it's OK to use! The results were great, but I would just like some reassurance that it's not going to remove the sealant. The cleaner solution is designed to be used neat on glass, polycarbonate, and all other resin spectacle lenses.

The cleaner says on the label;

"Less than 5% of :- Non-ionic surfactant. Isopropanol solvent and Ether Glycol Solvent."

Do you reckon it's OK to use?

Sounds like it's about 95% water from your description and would probably be a pretty mild cleaner. But, isopropanol and glycol ether are both solvents that in sufficient concentration will probably strip your sealant.

Since you've already sealed your alloys with the PB wheel sealant, I would try to use a simple car wash solution first before resorting to your homemade concoction. Only way to tell for sure if it strips the PBs over time is to try it.

Thanks for the replies - I didn't have any wash with me at work, which is why I resorted to my own cocktail! Probably best to just use a weak washing-up solution if I find myself out of car wash again at work. I don't want to risk stripping the sealant 'cos it seems to make general washing so much easier.

Sounds like you've really diluted it - 5%, then 1:15 - but I am thinking that _any_ use of alcohol is going to remove some of your sealant ...

+1 sounds like your mixture works good , just apply another coat of sealant to your wheels.
