It is with a heavy heart that I post this, but it has to be shared.

Holy Sheet part I is officially done

https://www.autopia.org/forums/deta...oly-sheet-exo-csl-csl-exo-longevity-test.html

Essence does not play well with gtech csl, exo, or both

It has failed, I`m calling this one

It`s flat, I decontaminationed it for the fourth time in 13 months just this weekend and it was not a pretty site afterwards.

It was getting pretty sketchy at the 8 month mark to be honest.

I`ve made an executive decision and decided to recall the last two remaining owned client Vehicles as the other two have already been sold. It`s up to the owners if they want to accept a gratis 1step+ (new) coating. I just can`t live with it on my detailing conscience.

I`m going to do a one step to remove whatever is leff and coat it with something else that I know will not fail very prematurely.

I shouldn`t have used essence and do not recommend anyone else to. There is no way my clients could maintain a coating better than I could for a year, and I put this on my hood before I ever sold it.

I will post some videos once I get more time.

I will also be re-introducing up to two Hellcats in the near future, so at least thats a plus.

Thanks for doing these tests. I like so see real world results and choose products that have been tested and proven, that way I can put my faith in the products I use.

How long did you think/hope the products would last if Essence hadn`t misbehaved?

It`s a combo I still want to try sometime.

exov2 should last up to 18 months
csl says 3-5 years
csl+exo should be 3-5
if you go to gtechs site and buy through their accredited detailers I`m prety sure csl+exo is sold as 5 yr

I`ve seen several people who have complained of pre-mature coating failure in the last several months across several different (non Carpro) brands. Essence seems to be the common link.

Well one csl client said he wont allow me to redo it for free, and if he didnt now live 300 miles away he`d pay me full price for what I`d recommend.

That made me feel good.

I`m still gonna send him, essence+, and reload or c2v3 (white cat)
and probably some other stuff.

I`m not happy to know I have two cars out there that are 1/3 or so of proper expectancy. Perils of getting started I guess.

those were my first cars to csl on and they all came last summer when I had that ridiculous streak of 2+ month full of Mopars

I asked the other client to call me and he said he would, but never did so hopefully I`ll get him squared away tomorrow. I still owe him a two year coating in my opinion since his 3 year one probably died already after one year.

And imagine the non reporting bias swaying the sample size of all of the people who don`t have the guts to admit that their`s failed as well :)

I posted this on a pretty large detailing group on fb and nobody wants to give real input, they just want to dance around their own speculation without any kind of data to prove anything

I did this test on one principle alone and that was for data

I`ll admit I made a bad business decision to put Essence on before these Coatings without any longitudinal data but I didn`t see any problem with it because I was told there would be no problem with it and apparently they are a separate silica strand that don`t react properly with each other or something... I don`t know I`m not a Real scientist I`m just a social scientist and occasionally a mad scientist.

but i hold the proof now and if somebody wants to contest this they better start now and hit me up in december 2018

Stunned, thanks for sharing.
To be honest, I am always a bit `stunned` by the 3-5 year claims, particularly when used on daily drivers, more notably in harsh winter areas. 22ple HPC also claims 3-5 years I believe.

I just don`t think anything beyond even 3 years is realistic given actual vehicle usage. 3 years alone is quite a tall order...its a pretty harsh world out there.

Thanks for charing your experience with your testing and it can be very usefull for others. You have done a great work and follow up.
I think many have to come and see essence as a finishing polish. But the intent was as a primer for carpros coatings. And now we see that their is different strings of the sio2. It`s a interesting thing that you found out.
Do gtechnic have any primer for their coatings?

Yeah I put Essence on the back burner when I could tell that when I went to install a coating it removed all of the fillers and hazed.

I just have a fundamental issue, as I did in the start with the variance on a coating listed 3 to 5 years.

Not as serious as an issue I have with the term "giving 110%" but that`s an entirely different discussion.

I list it as a 3 year coating but haven`t sold a single CSL package since I started using Cosmic.

I never really liked CSL alone anyways. Especially after I saw how it goes to crazy town when you add EXOv2.

I`d have to pull the thread on my SRT but I am pretty sure I used essence under CSL and EXO but I`ve topped it so many times I don`t think I could really tell you anything objective on that test. I simply did that coating to protect my paint from mother nature and provide a sacrificial layer or two of ceramic.

I am definitely still offering both of these coatings as I like them but not playing around with these coating primer polishes prior to a coating. I used them with the best intentions, to add that extra pop prior to a coating but as luck would have it, it was not a match to the coating.

I`m really glad I did this test, however. I think this is proper validation for the "I told you so" part of my brain which always gets kick back from the "well show me" side. :)

And guess what that means... someone has an entire hood to play with...

Have to say that I was really impressed with CSL alone after application...until it was released out into daily use. Even topped with C2V3 it was terrible at staying clean with respect to water spots. Strangely, about 3-4 months in it began improving and now is staying very clean with good beading. Odd stuff, this coating bizness.

Brandt - great work on keeping this test going for so long, and being honest with the results. Bummer about the Essence likely causing the premature failure.

thanks. there are only two possible explanations here

one makes much more sense

essence failed and took the coatings with it

OR four iron washes in 13 months will kill all three of these coatings
