Holograms after I detail my car??

This is a strange one, I have been detailing my 911, its a really dark blue, think black with a hint of blue pearl.

I followed these steps.

Degrease wash

wash

dry

porter 3/4/6 speed BA/Pro clear cut

mircofiber

porter 3/4/6 speed Ba/Pro Swril Eliminator.

microfiber

Now at this point it looks down right amazing at least in the garage, no swirls, you have to get right on top of the paint and look at a 80 degree angle to see any small scratches that I might have missed.

porter 3/5/6 speed B/PRO cherry finishing wax

microfiber.

now this is where it completely falls apart and I do not know why, in the garage it looks down right amazing, take it out of the garage and the entire car is covered with holograms from tip to tail, and I mean terrible ones, they are not scratch inducuced holograms at least I do not think so, because if I dry the car the holograms follow my drying pattern.

honestly the car looks horrible at this point, does anybody have any suggestions what it could be. Bad product? I tried a few different mirofiber closths that I have as well as a bonnet and I get the same result. I have tried a few differnt waxes and a few different cloths but with no change. Really kind of stuck.

Storm,

Don't worry. One way or the other, I'm sure you will get the help you need to figure this out. If you dig deep enough, you will eventually find what's going on.

First, this doesn't have much to do with your holograms, but what do you mean by a degrease wash? Are you using something other than carwash shampoo for this step?

Second, please explain your process a little more in detail. How did you actually work your polishes? How much product did you use on your pad? How big of a panel did you polish, and how long were you able to polish before stopping? What did you look for to tell you the polish was broken down enough to remove the excess?

These are all questions that, when answered, may reveal what went wrong.

Holograms come from high speed buffers, not from the pc.

If holograms only come from Rotary and such...

Did you purchase this vehicle used?

Have anyone doing any work on it recently?

Someone may have used a cover up before...

You insist you used microfiber pads? Sure they wern't wool?

What year is the car? Well you said it's pearl so I know it's clear coated. I am sure the were there to begin with and the pc did not leave them there. So it's probably nothing that your doing with the pc to cause these. Sometimes a pc will not get out all the deep holograms and it will take a rotory to remove them.

Don't forget guys that you can leave some pretty nasty smearing type marks that could appear to be buffing holograms by using too much polish and/or not working it long enough to break it down. There are a lot of variables here.

Well I went back and taped off a 1x1 square of the roof and went to town, starting from scratch yet again. Pulled it outside quickly an looked at it with the halogen lights.

So this is what I think is happing.

I think the wax is not drying on the car, strange as that sounds. I hand applied this time and tried to take it off with the Orbital and low and behold its just smearing around, it looks less hazy then normal, not like other waxes and not like it used to look with my older bottles.

The real scary thing is that I cannot for the life of me get the wax off the car now with a microfiber, it just keeps smearing around causing all sorts of problems. I am going to strip the area down one more time and try a differnt batch of wax nd see if I get a different result. If so I will contact BAF and trash the bottle.

I am pretty new to this, but perhaps starting over with a wash and then claying the car to remove any residue (wax, etc) might be a good start before going around again with polish/wax.

Try hitting the area with a QD to see if that takes care of the smearing. If not, you may have some oils from the compound/polishing steps still sitting on the paint making it difficult for the wax to set up correctly. Next go around try an IPA wipedown before the wax.

The clear on a porsche is very soft. What pads are you using? If you have pics send me a PM and I will host them for you.

Storm,

I'm a little confused. What are you trying to do? Are you waxing or polishing, and what wax are you using?
