Hollywood FL.

Ok everyone, I need some help. Right now I’m living in southeast CT and working as a dealer at a casino. This job is not my dream job but it does pay the bills. A good friend of mine just moved to Hollywood FL to work at the new Hard Rock casino and he really wants me to go down and do the same. The money is good and the weather is nice, but I have New England in my blood and I’m not sure its right for me.



With that said, I have lived in FL before. But it was in Jacksonville and only for 6 months. I managed a detail shop and car wash while I was there. I wasn’t getting paid enough and didn’t have any time to go out so it made my stay a nightmare. I ran back to CT and started all over. Now it’s about 12 years later and I’m thinking of trying again.



So everyone from southern FL, this is for you. How good is the detail business right now down there? I’m thinking of doing mobile detailing for extra cash. Is the Hollywood area a good place to do this? From up here it sounds great but I’m really not familiar with that part of FL. I think its near Miami and Ft Lauderdale and I guess Hollywood is a good size city. The potential of customers seems to be good from where I stand but I do know it could just be a mirage.

I've only been to Miami once but I saw more nice cars there in that one day than I see in Tampa in almost a year (some I never see here). Those will be your target customers. The people who have the money and want the best for their vehicles.



There are some other people on the board who detail near/in the area and hopefully they chime in to give some professional advice.

Every time I go to Miami I see some of the best cars the world has to offer. But I still think they all need me to detail them. :woohoo:



Anyone from Hollywood?. Anyone......anyone?
 
Hollywood is basically Ft. Lauderdale West, and Miami is only 20 minutes or so down the pike from there. I moved down a little bit north of that area from Maine, and I'll never go back (for more than vacation). The money and lifestyle is great down there, and the housing market just crashed so it is a lot more affordable.



The Hard Rock is a pretty neat place... I go there once in a while, it's like a 50:50 blend of Foxwoods and Downtown Disney.

Portland Maine is a cool city. I went there for a concert a few years back. So you moved down to FL for detailing, or was it for another job/ reason? If it was for detailing is it everything you dreamed of. Do the girls in bikinis throw themselves at you when you walk up to the door to tell them their car is done? Sorry, that’s my dream :D. Do you miss Maine.

I live in NC now but moved here from Boca Raton (20 minutes north of HWood) 2 years ago. South Florida is generally a very wealthy area, people have no problem letting the world know they have money. I know there are a few VERY good detail guys out there but they are hard to find fighting through all the shady ones.

The weather.....well summer is hot and humid, it rains a lot. Fall? Winter is like a warm Spring minus the blooming. Spring.....Summer for the norther folks.

The housing market is in the gutter so getting something shouldnt be too hard.



If I were to go back and start a detail biz, I would have a shop and price for the high end. HWood is a decent area, you have Miami, FtLauderdale, Boca Raton, Coral Springs, Parkland and, Palm Beach all have money. If you can show you have skill and knowledge, you can do pretty well there. Heck I may move back and fill out an application!
