Holiday to "The Jewel of the Highlands" - Pictures

"The Jewel of the Highlands" is what is written on the sign as you enter Plockton, on Scotland's west coast... It certainly is a beautiful little town and a great base for travelling round some truly stunning scenery that Scotland has to offer :) ... We didn't venture over to Skye on this occasion, choosing the Applecross peninsula and saving Skye for a week or two on its own at a later date.

So, I thought I'd share the photographs from a really wonderful week away with Allie in some of the most beautiful scenery I have seen :)

En Route to Plockton (Loch Lochy)

We were greeted on the West Coast with some traditional weather - heavy rain  ...

Arriving in Plockton

Despite the heavy rain en route, especially coming through Glen Shiel, the sun was beginning to break through as we arrived in Plockton...

Plockton and Surrounding

First day, after getting in some tasty local provisions (jams, seafood :) ), we went around the local area to Plockton and found a nice little walk just at the back of the town...

Sgurr A'Chaorachain and Road to Applecross

On one of the days, on recommendation from abz001, we went to Applecross and round the Applecross Peninsula... the drive to Applecross from Lochcarron was absolutely stunning on a single track mountain road, sheer drops on one side and amazing scenery - one of my favourite drives ever! :D

You can stop and climb a small hill from this road. View from the car park:

Now home, thoroughly relaxed and looking forward to a chilled out summer before I start teaching in school in August :)

Absolutely beautiful pictures Dave! Every time I look at pictures you post of your country I feel a little bit closer to Scotland. Hopefully someday we'll be able to see your beautiful countryside in person.

Great pictures, Dave, of a beautiful place. I've been lucky enough to have gone to Scotland twice - after the first time I went, I just had to go back again :) Hope you don't mind if I post a few of my own pictures:

Nice holiday, Dave!! Great pics!

MMM.......when I see those pics, somehow, (although I've never been there before)I just think of freshly baked scones, thinly sliced cucumber sandwiches and some fine hot English tea for a great teatime at those hills, savouring the tranquil scenery, followed by a nicely grilled rack of lamb for dinner with red wine-reduced sauce, ....followed by some superb port....., and followed by a nice apple crumble with coffee. DAxM!!!!!!!!

Ooohhhh....I gotta wake up now from my gastronomic dreams !!!!!!! :eyebrows:

I'm glad you had a nice time!

Dude, it's Scotland. Think of a haggis with a deep-fried Mars bar washed down with a shot of single malt whisky. That ought to wake you up.:tongue2:

Dave, I'm just kidding with gigondaz. :boink: I love Scotland. It's an awesome place and you Scots are great fun.

I really hope I can get back there someday.

If you make it back to Skye before I do (very probable), take a picture of a fuzzy red cow for me. The idiots at the photo lab (hey, it was pre-digital) lost my negatives.
