Autogeek sells this same polisher with a backing plate for almost $180.

It (Hitachi SP18VA 7" Rotary Polisher) is available for $99.99 from one of Amazon's resellers. This price does not include a backing plate.

Hitachi Rotary

I have one as well. I wish mine was that cheap. I think I spent $130 shipped. Great tool, almost an exact copy of the makita.

The rotary keeps tempting me, and I suppose why shouldn't it. It's the "ultimate" tool of detailing, capable of amazing results in the right hands. I'd really prefer to stay with US made tools, but I want one that is light, and so those seem to be mutually exclusive. This Hitachi is compelling due to it's light weight, high power, high feature content, and low price.

I have a question, though. If you set the dial to whatever preset max speed, can you still control the speed (up to that point) via the trigger? I mean, is the trigger variable too, or is it more on/off?

Bob, I have the Hitachi and the trigger is variable also. This is an absolute steal at this price!

Alright, then I guess I can't think of any reason to say no... I'm a little nervous about using the rotary, though I've used them a bit before. But I guess I'm not gonna get any better at it by not using one.

Thanks for the feedback and info on it, and to the thread-starter for pointing out the deal. :)

Glad I can help.:)

If anyone is on the wall with this, think of it like this. You can get a really so-so rotary for ~$60 before shipping and for $30 more you can get what myself and a number of others have found to be a very good tool with a 5 year warranty. Any questions?

What about the other settings. I mainly use mine at 1400 and 1200 are the setting at that rpm? Do you have all of the setting speeds.

Wow. It jumps from 1100 to 1700 with one higher setting. They should of lowered it to like 1500 instead. Thanks for the insight about it.
