Hi-Temp's purple tire dressing, Z16

I posted several days ago regarding Hi-Temp (I happen to live in Omaha where they are located), and got some great responses. I have another question regarding one of their products . . . has anyone tried their "grape" tire dressing? I'm currently using Meguiar's Endurance gel (bought it before joining the forum :(), and I'm considering switching to either the Hi-Temp or Z16. Hi-Temp is a good option for me because they're local, or I can tack a bottle of Z16 on to my next Zaino order.

<sigh> I wish Zaino was available locally (closest distributor is 150 miles away); the whole mail-order/$6.95 for shipping means having to plan ahead, something I'm terrible at. Oh well, the glowing silver WRX is worth it :D

Any opinions appreciated,

Tort

It depends on what kind of a shine you are looking for. I heard Z-16 has a matte shine to it. the TOL Grape dressing sounds like it leaves more shine to the tire. At under $20 a gallon, I'm willing to give it a try if I was located near Hi-Temp.

Just a suggestion..but try both of them and see which one you like.

a pro detailer that does hi volume. It is probably a good product with a nice look, but durablity will not match 303 or Z16,etc,etc. But then again yuo have a lot more of it for the same price to apply! Decisions, decisions........

Hey Tortoise, how's your WRX doing so far?

I got silver WRX too..just waxed it with Pinnacle Lotion and Klasse SG yesterday...it's very2 shinny

anyway, a thin Subaru paint certainly needs a good wax protection...good luck and have fun with your rex

Langit,

I find my grins are both frequent and either a) ear-to-ear from the g-forces of an AWD launch or b) lopsided from the g-forces of tossing her around corners. I have a highly-modded '92 Talon that would destroy the WRX in a straight line, but throw a couple of corners in the mix, and it's the Suby all the way. Even on the crappy RE92s, the WRX corners better than the last three cars I've owned (1st and 2nd gen Talons), and all of those had modded suspensions and Dunlop SP8000s (Z-rated, not all-seasons).

I know what you mean about the paint; it chips if I stare at it hard. Of course, now that she's Zainoed, I find I <strong class='bbc'>can't[/b] stare at her very hard, at least in the direct sunlight. :D

Keep the tach pointing east,

Once my supply of tire dressings, and I use up half of the Vinylex (3L jug), I'll probably buy a gallon of tire dressing from TOL. I don't know which one, but all the prices seem right..if not very inexpensive, might even get two of them, one with a really high shine, and one of the water based dressing.

Jason,

I'm probably going to go ahead and pick up some of the purple dressing (I think this is one that TOL carries) for myself (provided I can get it in a reasonably small qty from Hi-Temp; don't want a gallon to start with) . . . if you'd like me to send you a sample, I'm sure that could be arranged.

Let me know,

I'm curious about the longevity/durability issue. I clean my tires with my car; about once a week. So after 7 days isn't longevity a moot point?

I think Tort is going to try "The Best Tire Dressing" in the wheel/tire section of TOL.

It also states that its the Grape Dressing (HT-10) when you click on it, on the label of the bottle says its petrolium (sp?) based..I'm guessing its ok to use on tires..

means you have to wipe twice, and solvent based mean you wipe once......there are exceptions. I can imagine most of that stuff being a VERY high gloss.

I love the VERY high gloss on light colored cars and certain darker colored cars (dark blue corolla).

I don't see myself applying high gloss products on a black high end MB though, just wouldn't look right to me..more of a time for 303 or Z-16.

I'm probably going to go ahead and try both Z16 and the purple dressing, as another poster suggested. What the hell; can't be more than $10 or so for a small bottle of the HT-10, and I know a couple of guys that I can pawn the HT-10 off on if it's too shiny (they dig the ghetto shine, to each his own). Actually, I'm happy with anything from a medium gloss on down, so we'll see.

I've got to order more Z6/Z7 in the near future anyway, so adding in the Z16 isn't a problem (cuts down on the per-product shipping costs, yeah, that's the ticket :D).

Thanks for the opinions, everyone. I'll report back in a few weeks after trying both.

P.S. DETAILKING, you seem to be the resident Zaino Zealot (I mean that in a good way) . . . are you using Z10 on your interior vinyl? I'm trying to decide if I should put Z10 on my list, or give 303 or Vinylex a try. I have no leather in my cars to treat, just the dash/doors/trim. I would value your opinion . . .

I love to use Zaino Z10. It goes on easy and has very consistant coverage. It smells great and has a great low gloss factory look to it. If its a rougher material like what is on my 325i dash, I would go with 303....it has a thinner consistency and works better on the rougher surfaces.

The Zaino on the 300M, and EF Black Opal on the truck and Honda. I like the high gloss look of the Black Opal but my wife prefers the Zaino look on the 300M. Here's a pic of one coat of Zaino on the 300M.

I bought it because it's supposed to be silicone based which should mean it shines pretty good. The price was very good, I got the 32oz bottle. For some reason, the stuff didn't look good on my tires. The "grape" smell is very hard, like a mix of grape and heavy silicone and caustic chemicals mixed in, in other words it smelled very little like a natural grape smell, which put me off. It's a heavy silicone

type product and slings off slightly, did not penetrate well and attracted some dust and dirt. Needless to say, I now use it on my Police Package Crown Vic I drive at work. It looks

'OK' on that car, but then again that car never gets detailed so ANYTHING looks good on it! I will admit, for the purpose of applying it to my company car, the tires still look blk and it evens out very nicely since I just sprayed it on and walked away. I put some of my company Explorer last night and got the same results. Overall I would rate it

'OK', but would not use it on my Bimmer tires. The stuff is basically a silicone dressing and does not give a high-gloss

or matte finish, just a blk finish. Try the water based stuff or the "Wet Look Tire Dressing" and let us know what's up. I would send you some, but the stuff was so cheap it would probably cost me more to ship it! I will try the other

stuff eventually, hoping to find a good product, I'm sure they have something. Email me if you want more info on the stuff.
