1. How did you wind up at Autopia?
I'm not sure, I was browsing around google and came by a topic in your Click&Brag forum. I've been lurking for the past few days, as this seems like one of the most mature forums I've ever seen. To be honest, I'm a total newbie to detailing, I just can't resist signing up for your forum =)
2. What do you like most about detailing? Well, as I said in 1., I'm not actually big into detailing (yet!). However, I think it'd be nice to really learn how to detail my car. My car is actually in pretty sad condition. It didn't come nice, so I kinda mentally said to myself "don't worry about keeping it in tip-top condition" since it looks kinda bad even when I do keep it clean. But what else would you expect from a 16 year old car that can't be garaged?
3. What are your favorite products/processes and why? see 2. =(
4. What's your dream car and why? I just recently became interested in cars. By dream car, I'm assuming that I have a pretty substantial amount of money to work with. Currently, my favorite car is probably the Porsche Targa 4s. There's something about that car that just makes me want to hurry up and finish school so I can start earning some money. Too bad I have 2.5 years of college (and hopefully 4 of med and 4 of residency after that) left.
5. What's the best thing you learned on Autopia? How much thought, attention to detail, care, and expertise actually goes into detailing a car. Before I found this forum, I thought detailing was pretty much just vacuuming, washing, and waxing your car. Boy was I wrong!
6. What are some of your other hobbies and interests? I used to be really involved in the EDM scene here in Reno. Not so much anymore. (EDM stands for "electronic-dance music, by the way) I get a lot of juvenile enjoyment from driving fast, I really need to stop and find some way of tracking without having to spend an insane amount of money. I still play video games, but I do not consider myself a gamer at all.
But, as I mentioned earlier, I'm mostly concerned with school right now. I volunteer in the ER ("ED" is correct, I guess) at a local hospital. I'm taking 17 credit-hours this semester as a Chemical Engineering major at the University of Nevada, Reno.
7. Do you have any pets? Nope =(
8. Name three secret techniques that you think you should share to fellow Autopians.
Since I'm a newbie to detailing (heck, I'm not even deserving of that distinction):
White Tiger Palm Fist
Black Snake Knife Strike
Wild Stallion Back Kick
lol?
9. Where are you from and where do you live now?
My dad was active duty Navy for the first 18 years of my life. I was born in Knoxville, TN, moved through HI, NC, IL, CA, GA, and I now live in Reno, NV.
10. What was you first car and what got you interested in keeping cars perfect?
1993 Lexus GS300. Given to me by my grandma after she was given a new CTS by my rich uncle. I've finally learned the value of the dollar and a car. I'm determined that any cars I own after this one will stay in tip-top condition. This one came to me already marred by my grandmother's... less than desireable... driving habits.
11. What motivates you to detail? The love of a beautiful car.
12. Would you ever pay someone else to detail your car? Definitely. I plan on living a busy life in the future. As much as I'd love to learn to do the job myself, I will definitely be willing to pay for a good once-over in the future.
13. Does detailing run in the family at all, or are you the only normal one? Nope, whole family simply does the standard wash with the occasional wax.
14. What is your favorite part about detailing? Man, you're making me feel bad about not detailing now XD.
15. If detailing is a hobby for you, would you like to do it full time, or do you feel that it would take the fun out of it? I'm hoping to one day make it a hobby and a habit, but I don't think I could do it full time.
Extra comments: Browsing this forum has made me really respect the detailing business and hobby. You guys are really cool =) It almost seems like an American-dream sort of hobby/business, if that makes at least some sense.
I decided to finally lose my extra poundage over the summer so I've lost between 35 and 40 pounds so far and I'm at about 195 now (down from 235-240 or so). Fitness is another hobby I'm starting to take up, as I've learned how great it is to feel good and, might I say, feel like you look good. I think the same will come with my first new or new-ish car =)
