Ive been getting more and more wet sanding jobs lately and Ive been looking for some ways to better my quality and efficiency.

On some of my jobs I wont have an air compressor that would run a pneumatic DA near by. So I have been using my Girot's Garage Orbital with a foam interface pad on a 6" backing plate. I was using the 3M hookit II BP with the P1500 disc and followed by a P3000 Trizact disc. Well those are crazy expensive and you have to use the hookit II BP and I started looking arround for other options.

So this light bulb come on above my head and I had an Idea.

For Dry sanding

The Festool with the vacuum hooked up to it (for dust free and to keep the pad from clogging up)

P1500 disc with vacuum holes

then wetsand with P3000

I always have to keep wiping off the Disc to unclog all of the clear coat build up

So I thought maybe the festool with it's amazing Dust free wood sanding commercial, That it would maybe do an amazing job at sucking up clear coat dust?

If this sounds Crazy and ridiculous then let me know. but If I could Dry sand with 1500 without Dust everywhere Then go back with 3000 wet then I am down.

Let me know how absurd or great this Idea is. thanks

I think using a D.A. is not a bad idea for nibbing dirts, or spot sanding, but you WILL get a flatter finish when you block the car. Don't get me wrong, I've dry sanded cars before from start to finish, and if they don't want to pay the labor for me to block the car, then I'll use a D.A. Using the festool sounds like a great idea. You can also get a wetsanding D.A. that has continuous water flowing out through the sandpaper. I believe 3M makes it. I'm sure it also has a 3M price tag. ;)

lol thanks for reading through all that. and thanks for the reply. I just thought instead of wetsanding with my Mac tools pneumatic DA I could use an electric one when i'm mobile and dont have an air compressor. and instead of wetsanding with 1500 just dry sand and the wetsand with 3000.

I know that Meguiars new unigrit disc work on there G110 polisher. so thats kinda where I got my idea from.

I bet that 3m wetsanding DA has a very pretty price tag on it.
