Hey everyone, I have...

XX DeWalt Crossing XX
...to say thanks ahead of time for all the great posts on here. I've spent the past month soaking up as much info as I can and I've learned a lot. I've been a "do-it-yourself-er" for a long time. I recently purchased (I'm afraid to say it because I see a lot of PC owners on here) a DeWalt 849 circular. I got the Advanced Pad kit from Proper auto care along with some other goodies. I have a 1999 Chevy Silverado, BLACK!

I wanted to just say hi and let you know how my very fist circular polisher experiance went. My truck had just dried from a good wash and claying. I used my 7.5" foam polishing pad (mild cut) and Ultra Polish by 3D internatinol (3dproducts.com) I've used their products before and have had good results, although I feel some heat in the next few post coming because i've never seen anyone talk about them on here. I started in small sections at 1,000 rpm always keeping the machine moving. I was very pleased after I used a microfiber cloth to wipe off the first few passes of polishing. I completed the whole truck in a little over 1.5 hours.

I then grabbed the final polish/wax pad and my carnuba wax. I have not been able to find a medium between people who apply the final wax by hand or by machine. I tried a small section by machine, looked fantastic. I then tried a small section by hand, same results.

Overall, a lot of fun and I'm very pleased with the results. My main problem was "tired" looking paint with spider webbing and some circular swirls. All of the tired look and spider webbing was gone, but I had some swirls that did not come out. I tried using the mild cut pad/polish at 1400 rpm and that did not seem to make a difference. This was a foam cutting pad, not wool. For my first time, like I said, I'm pleased. I'll have more questions in the appropriate sections shortly, but any comments on the above would be much appreciated. Thanks again in advance!

Hello from another MNer. Were abouts are you from? Your brave to take on a rotary!! I think maybe what your seeing after polishing (small swirls maybe hazing caused by a cutting pad. Try following up with another milder polish to see if that does the truck. You said you let the truck dry? As in air dry? YOu will never want to air dry. Try a Waffle Weave MF. make sure not to use bath towels on paint! Look forward to some pics.

Glad you had a good experience with the rotary. In the right hands, they can do some unbelieveable paint correction.
Any chance the swirls you are seeing are some you are putting in rather than existing ones?

Hey guys, thanks for the replys so far. Yes, I did let it air dry. We have very soft water up here, but I see where you are coming from. I have a bunch of MF cloths, not sure if they are waffle though? I've never really towel dried before, but I'm always up for something new!

The swirls were defenitely in the paint before I got to it. Trust me, I was shaking like a leaf when I started because I didn't want to "add" anything to the paint. Under the flourescent light, they are noticable, but nothing too major. I'd like to in the near future learn how to cut those down and really get the mirror finish. I only did one coat of polish, maybe I needed a couple more? I may also experiment with another type of polish to see what will work the best. So many products to pick from!
