They don't really have detailers per se. I worked part time for Avis a couple of years ago, we shared a cleaning area with Hertz. The detailing arsenal consisted of a foaming glass cleaner, foaming carpet cleaner, some type of crappy bug remover and paper towels. Thats it! No towels or brushes except for a old interior brush for carpet.
Here it was a "detail" consisted of:
Pull car over to "detail" station which was uncovered and basically in the middle of the parking lot without shade:
1. Vacuum interior, wipe windows, wipe dash and plastic if needed, spot removal on carpet. I would spray some of the bug remover on the front and windshield before the wash process if needed.
2. Check oil and washer fluid
3. Dry down the street to BP/Amoco, top off fuel, run it through touchless car wash, car is air dried on way back to Airport.
Their cars are dirty by autopian standards for a few reasons:
1. Employees dont make jack
2. Lack of remotely decent chemicals and towels!
3. You are expected to crank out a ton of cars a day and dont have the time to do a respectable job. I would usually have at least 15+ cars a day usually in a 5-6 hour period.
Needless to say I had enough one day and threw in the (paper)towel.
