Help with Marine Products Please, 3M & Megs

A buddy just asked me to detail his fiberglass boat, but I don't have a lot of experience with marine products.

He's got the following:

3M Finesse-It II Finishing Material, part # 09048.

Meguiars Flagship Premium Marine Wax, part # M-6316.

Anybody have any experience with these products?

Any suggestions for pads and speeds?

Thanks in advance for any info.

Finesse it II works well for light oxidation on newer boats, but will not get scratches out. You can try using it with a wool pad on bad spots and see what happens.

I was never a fan of Flagship (do they still make it??) It will work fine, but durability isn't so hot. Is this boat trailered or left in the water all season? If it's trailered no big deal, you can use the flagship but might have to reapply. If it's left in the water all season you may want to use something more durable like collinite or something synthetic. I use Zaino on my boat for a last step, but I have had great results with NU FINISH as well on BOATS.

The horizontal surface on the bow of the hull is somewhat chalky, so maybe I'll need something more aggressive than the Finesse-it II. I'll have him pick up some of the the 3M Marine Super Compound .... the local marine store sells that.

The sides of the hull are much less chalky as they don't get the full UV. I'm hoping the Finesse-it II with wool will be enough for that, finished with the Flagship applied via PC and foam.

Thanks for the advice, I'll try to post some pics.
