Help with HD Uno

I don't know what I am doing wrong.

I just purchased HD Uno along with the polish and orange, blue and black pads.

The paint is base coat/clear coat on an old Corvette,so it is not factory paint if that makes a difference.

The paint is about 4 years old and never been exposed to the elements,so it is in excellent shape with the exception of some light washing induced swirling that you can see under the garage lighting.

My problem is I can't make any progress.I am using a Metabo orbital and letting the weight of the buffer do the work and have tried various amounts of product and used very little as my searches suggested and each time I wipe off the product, every swirl is still there, untouched. No more or less than before I started.

I can't get even a little correction from this.

I am sure it is something I am not doing correctly as I am not a professional, but I have been using a orbital buffer for years.

I would appreciate any tips.

What model Metabo?

DA or rotary?

How powerful is it?

What pad are you using?

If it's under-powered it won't do much. Corvette paint can be rock hard and difficult to correct!

Also, if it's a DA/RO polisher you'll need to do more than let the wait of the machine do the work. You'll need to put some pressure on it.

As you state, it's a refinish job.

Some painters add a bit more hardner to the clear when applying.

Given 4 years it can get really dense(hard).

Sounds like you need a rotary buffer with a compound and cut pad to knock it down and then with the rotary and polish pad, to burnish the paint with a polish.

Once the deep marring is removed, there may be strike marks from the polishing pad, you can use your obital to "possibly" remove the final marring. A DA is much better for this step.

I have a Metabo SXE 125 that I bought at Griots years ago.It was the best they had when I bought it. RPM 5000-12000 random orbital

I used the HD orange cutting pad followed by the polish with the HD blue polish pad.

It does seem like the paint is hard.

That is what it is looking like.I might have to go beyond my comfort level with the foolproof random orbital.

I just don't want to burn the paint.I am not sure this is the car I want to learn how to use a rotary buffer on.

I looked at my receipt in the Metabo box and I bought it in 1994!!

Although it is in perfect condition it might be considered an antique.
