Help With Fine Scratches

This Christmas, I plan to order some Blackfire polish and their other product (cant think of it off the top of my head). However, before I do that, there are a few fine scratches on my C5 from various other things. All except one is very fine and can only be seen in certain revealing lights....it is almost like a marring, but it straight lines, probably from stuff like branches on my g/f dirt road. What would I need to do to get these scratches out? I do not have a good buffer, so the work will be done by hand and the only scratch product I have right now is Meg. Scratch X. I would prefer products that can be bought locally rather than having to order off the internet. Could you give me some pointers on it? Thanks!

Since you're removing scratches, I would highly recommend buying a PC (orbital polisher...you can buy it at the Autopia Store).

A polish that works well and is available in stores is 3M Perfect-It III Machine Glaze. I got mine at Carquest. It was $30 for a 32-ounce bottle. You can use it by hand too, but polishing scratches is far easier with a PC.

Too poor to buy a PC! Im in college right now, so buying a PC or anything like that is out of the question. My father has an older buffer of some kind, but it is harsh and I cant bring myself to use it on my car.

I was thinking the same thing!

If you can afford to pay the insurance on a Corvette for a college student...then you should be able to afford a PC.

If not, ask for one for Christmas.

Heh heh, while they're busting you for "can afford 'vette, not polisher" (hope you can afford the other stuff it takes to keep it healthy :D ), I'll just say to try stuff that works OK by hand.

3M PI-IIIRC (05933) then PI-III MG (05937)

OR

1z Paint Polish then 1Z Metallic Polish

I don't find the Meguiar's stuff user-friendly enough, but the above products work fine by hand if you have the time and determination.

Its a 98 Vette and the insurance isn't bad at all for a 21 year old. Its only like $100/month for full coverage....and cough cough, the elders take care of it. Its not one that is ragged out and only has ~22K miles on it, but we simply took advantage of the good deals on them this summer.
