help with an aluminum toolbox

We have a client with a Chevy 2500 long bed with the diamond plate tool box and top bed covers that is scheduled. She would like these cleaned up and looking new again. They have slight oxidation and are dull, other than that are in good shape. We have Flitz polish and the Flitz ball, would that be the best route for brite work? We also have our old hook and loop LC pads that can be used for work like this. Any experience or suggestions? TIA

Its better to do diamond plate by hand. When you use power tools you get that black build up all around the diamond stamps. and it takes a brush and alot of time to get rid of it.

An easy way i polish it is to get a terry cloth towel. And fold it up, pour some metal polish on it and proceed to polish by long strokes, a few quick passes and it'll shine up nicely without alot of that black build up. You don't need to apply a whole lot of pressure either, light pressure quick strokes and you'll shine it up.

I've had great success using 3M's Macro Finishing Polish (the paste in gallon cans) and a nappy wool cutting pad, followed up with mothers mag & aluminum polish. To help in not getting the black build-up -- use the pad as you wouldn't use on a painted surface -- tipped up to at least a 45deg angle and make passes going in both directions parallel to the diamonds.
