Help with 2002 Toyota RAV4

Which type of transmission do you prefer manual or automatic. Some automatics give the driver the feeling of shifting through the gears. However, using a manual tranny and shifting through the gears, bringing that tach up to the red line and chirping the tires is a different story.

At my age and a bad left hip , plenty of horsepower and torque, high-performanced tuned transmission, faster 0-60' ( most street encounters) and faster 1/4 mile E.T - 4 spd automatic.

Needless to say I do miss manual on those back road excursions but not in traffic.:D

Both!! for the daily driver Automatic please!!! 3000 miles a month will make you tired.

For fun a speedster with Manual is fun.

I love driving manual when I'm <span style='color: red'>DRIVING, but when sitting in NY/NJ traffic I admit it... I NEED THE AUTOMATIC!!!

Manual for SURE. I don't mind putting up with the city stop and go driving.

But I'm sure a lot of people on this forum buy cars for different reasons than I do.

Hmmm....interesting question. If I was given the choice to live my life always in an automatic or always in a standard I'd have to have the standard. Maybe I wouldn't feel that way if my redline wasn't up past 8000. :D I'll admit that when I'm in a traffic jam I'd rather be in an auto but I can endure it because of the times that I'm not in traffic jams. ;)

Well, let me think about it. I've owned a Lotus Europa with a 5 speed, BMW 320i 4 speed, Ford Bronco 5 speed, BMW 325e 4 speed, BMW M3 5 speed, BMW M5 6 speed, gee I guess I like the manual !! I got my wife an automatic though.

I have 5-speeds in both my daily driver truck and my "baby", a '93 Thunderbird SC.

Wouldn't change for anything, even in traffic.

If I had arthritis or an injured foot, that'd be different.

There is no other way. I drive for about an hour each day, to and from work with my manual, and it does get a bit tiresome on really heavy traffic days. But in the end, when I have some teenie bopper pull up next to me in his suped up Neon, I sometimes have to break out the 7500 RPM. You don't get that in an automatic transmission.

Hey, think of it this way; you are building up your calf muscles :).

Best regards.

<strong class='bbc'>Those Manumatic, steptronic, and clutchless manual Transmissions would be my choice. [/b]</blockquote>
what cars have those? other than some 120K car I've never seen such a thing.....

I think he means the AUTOMATIC transmissions with an override shifting feature. Many manufactures call them different things (Touchshift, Autostick, Tiptronic, Steptronic, etc.)

Don't the new Acura TL Type S have those? Those cars are in the $30K price range I believe.

I guess it would depend on what kind of car i owned and what i did in it. If the car was on the sporty side, I'd have to say manual. But let's say for a daily driver that was large and designed to be a tourer i'd go with auto-stick(tiptronic etc....)

Driviving manual doesn't bother me one bit, but on a bigger car it's kind of a PITA
