Help! What to put after Mothers Reflections?

To all Autopians,

I live in Hong Kong and we don't have Zaino, Klasse, Blackfire available here. The only better wax I can buy retail is Mothers and Meguire (consumer line). I was astonished to see the results you guys are getting from Z, K, and Pinnacle products.

Unfortunately, my 2002 Silver BMW is park in a public garage and I don't have access to a hose to rinse off my car. When I do my car wash, I have to throw buckets of water to rinse my car off. It works but only time consuming. Therefore, I don't want to do a dawn wash.

I've use Mequire Gold Glass but don't like it because it doesn't last long. Now I use Mothers Reflections and this is a good product, but cannot layer it because it is a polish.

Now my relatives will come back to Hong Kong from the States in August and wonder what kind of wax or sealant I should get buy online based on my difficult situation. Durability is not a big issue as long as it is easy to work with and have a great shine.

1. Pinnacle paste Glaz - Will I get good result if I put Pinnacle Paste Glaz over Mothers Reflection?

2. Klasse AIO and GS - is it mandatory to dawn wash first since AIO have cleaning agents inside? Will it steak or haste if my prep work is not good?

3. Blackfire or Platinum - seems like these new products are easier to apply and won't get into trouble too much, are they easier to work with than Klasse? Also, is dawn wash mandatory for these products too?

I am now thinking towards point No. 1 (the carnauba route) because it should be the easiest to work with. What do you guys think?

Million thanks for your advice!!!

Some of my family lives in Hong Kong. My cousins come back every now and then.

My uncle drives a white BMW, I remember riding it back in 89 when I went over to HK. I think the car is still there unless he bought a new one.

Pinnacle Paste Glaz isn't that durable. Its around the durability of Gold Class 2-3 weeks.

Why not get all of them and try it out for your self. Klasse, Zaino, Blackfire and Platinum. The dawn wash isn't that hard, it just like washing with a shampoo.

If durability isn't an issue, then go with the glaze and carnauba route. Sealants are meant for daily driver's looking for durability. I still love to glaze and carnauba wax a garage queen every now and then.

EDIT: Now those airsoft guns took my interest. www.redwolfairsoft.com is based in HK I think. I gotta go back to HK and see the other side of the family again, most likely within 2 years.

I wish I could get all of them to try out but I can't afford it and it is a hassle to ask people to bring back a bunch of stuff to Hong Kong.

1. If Paste Glaz only last for 2-3 weeks like Gold Glass, what if I put a few layers initially, and then re-wax it monthly, will the shine last longer?

2. As mentioned with my difficult public garage situation, between Klasse, Platinum and Blackfire, which one is easiest to apply and remove? Which one does not haste and steak without the dawn wash?

3. If I keep my Mothers Reflections, what product is best to put over it which can be layered and get a great shine??

4. I can't find dawn in Hong Kong, can I substitute with other hand dish washing soap?

Thank you all for your helpful advice!

Reflections is quite a durable product, so if it's durability you want, nothing is really necessary.

If you want to add a carnauba topper, though, I'd suggest sticking with our Mothers Natural Formula Paste Wax, part # 05550. I've seen folks do this with good results.

Use of a silicone product will probably cause streaking, since you're mixing a resin product with a silicone product.

Meguiar's #26 is not a good choice, in my opinion because of the oils added to it - it would, most likely, cause streaking.

Hello BMW 318i!

It's nice to see people concerned about car care in different regions of the world. I also have a few relatives in Hong Kong. Cousins, uncles, great-grandmothers- you name it.

It seems like you're interested in an easy to use product with lots of protection. The Klasse twins you have considered should get you started. The AIO product contains mild cleansers that remove any airborne contamination living on your paint. :D The SG will layer to build up a barrier of protection and provide you with little maintenance.

When your relatives come to the states, I would suggest buying even more things. Since you don’t have access to the hose, maybe get a high-quality chenille wash mitt or car wash. A few microfiber towels come in handy and some dressings cant hurt.

Yes. The idea is to use a good grease-cutting dish soap with as few "extras" as possible, like anti-bacterial, moisturizing additives, etc. If Dawn or something else came in unscented form people would probably use it. The name "Dawn" has just become the most often used.

Will the Klasse AIO or the Blackfire polish remove the old wax build up? If so, then I can skip the Dawn wash step.

Does anyone try to use Klasse AIO or BF polish without Dawn wash first??

A Dawn wash is unnecessary if you use a product with cleaning properties, so no, you don’t need to Dawn wash it. The AIO or BF Polish will strip off all the remaining wax. For any other questions you have, try using the search function…

Good luck,

Hi BW,

Greatly appreciated for your very helpful information. Now I am ready to place my order.

BTW, when you use Klasse, is it easy to work with? I've read another post that it will haste and steak. In Hong Kong, the humidity is quite high and I am worried that Klasse might haste on my paint.

I've seen various post with Blackfire and Platinum and users said they are easlier to apply than Klasse. I really hope that someone with experience in these products can help me out!

Thanks a bunch!!

While some people may have had poor results from Klasse, I feel that it is user error instead of the product. Carguy wrote a very nice review on his experiences with Klasse.

Carguy Tries Klasse - part 1 (swirl removal)

Carguy tries Klasse - Part II (AIO + SG)

Sg Layer #2. still not entirely happy

SG Layer #3 - things are looking up

And here are some tips he wrote on another thread:

“I just did my own Klasse test - you can find it in the product reviews section. I had trouble with the SG at first (and second) too, and tried several suggestions. Here is what DID work for me:

1) Make sure you apply as thinly and evenly as possible with a QD-moistened pad. I used a foam pad - I think it uses less material and is less likely to remove what you just put on. A dry pad is awful though.

2) For buffing, use two microfiber towels. Wet one under the faucet and wring out as much water as you can. Buff off the SG with this, immediately followed by the dry one. Works like a champ. This method was BETTER than buffing out with detail spray.

Hope this helps!
