Help washing PC pads

zesty-man

how do ya like it?
hey, i just saw a post about this, and i didnt realize that i had to wash PC pads until now... i have "the edge" pads, and im wondering how to wash them. im thinking of using dawn and some warm water or something, but im not sure...

so... what is the "proper" way to wash PC pads?

I think that some of us don't wash their pads. They have a pad for each product and just let them dry after using them.

I soak mine in hot water and Dawn for a while, hand wash in Dawn and hot water, rinse real good, air dry. I also have a couple that are for PP & EX-P only and I've not washed them the last couple times I used them. We'll see how that works. If they don't deteriorate or something then my laziness will win out and I won't be washing many pads.....just buying some new ones to use with different products.....if I use different products........which seems unlikely. I like PP and EX-P and I don't tend to change once I've found something that I like.

I have the edge pads and I soak mine in warm water with some murphys soap or dawn but don't let the velcro backing soak in the solution. I have had a couple of pads come off and since I stopped letting the entire pad soak-no problem. Just let them soak for about 5-10 minutes then wring them out. I let them air dry then for about 10 minutes after that. Works well for me.

Aaron at Dedication to Detail has said not to soak the Edge pads, nor use a degreaser like Simple Green or what not.

My best advice came from Don on using the Murphy's Oil Soap. I will run the pad under warm, not hot, water to get the excess out. I then work in the Murphy's by hand. I will do probably 4-6 pads at a time, so I let it sit while I do the others. I then run them under water again to rinse out the Murphy's (which does rinse out very easily, better than Dawn).

I squeeze dry, not wring them as to not flutter the velcro. I no longer spin dry on the PC as that tends to stress out the adhesive. Air dry should only take over night if you squeeze them out well.

Of the velcro adhesive that has fallen apart on me, I started using this product from Top of the Line to make my pads last longer:

thanks for the help. i use the same pads for everything everytime, so i dont have to really worry about doin anythin like that. im not too sure what "murhpy's soap" is tho.. can someone explain to me?

Not quite sure, but you can get it at the supermarket for a couple of bucks. Just works better than Dawn for the few of us that use it.

I'm a recent convert to the Murphy Oil Soap camp as well. As Nick described, it seems to rinse more easily than Dawn without sacrificing any cleaning power. That was a great recommendation.
