help - sulfur stains

I need some advise. I am visiting a friend on the Gulf coast and her car is covered with an orange rust color stains. The houses, driveways and cars are all covered. It is coming from the sprinkler system. I am told that there is sulfur in the well water which is staining anything it touches. I had my PC and detailing supplies Fedexed down to me and I hope to bring her car back to normal. Anyone ever heard of this and have some help. Thanks, Adam

Have you tried clay yet? ifs its on the surface also look at white wine vinegar mixed 50/50 with water....soak a towel and let set on the surface for a few minutes, then rinse off with soapy water and then clean...follow up with clay
 
Hmm. In water systems with high iron, the water can "rust." Then it bakes on to a car. What beemerboy said makes sense. Good wash, clay bar. If not, try a chemical polish by hand, if you don't have a machine. Machine is the next step.
 
Thanks for the help. I am about to go try the PC with some polish. I will let you no the results. It is the strangest thing. All the cars in the neighborhood are half orange.
 
gulf coast well water thats my life....i detail cars in the sulfer belt......i have used a 1:1 distilled vinegar/water to spray over the car and let it sit for about 3-5 min., then i used hi-temp's smooth cut and a light cut pad, wiped off with advantages paint clean, and good coat of wax......but it really depends on the severity of the stains some of those are really hard to remove
 
I got them off. I used ssr 2.5, and then klasse AIO. It was tough going but the car looks great. Wken I get home Tuesday I will post some pics. The windows are still stained. I will try your suggestions.
 
If it's from the water, chances are that it will return. but at least you were able to get it off.

For the stained windows you can try a product called A-maz. It's designed to remove hard water stains (just don't use it on the paint)

For the windows, as well as hard water stains on paint, one of my quick & easy go-to's has been "Splash" made by Mark V Products... Just saturate a towel with the product, firmly wipe & agitate the affected area, then rinse -- repeat if necessary. Follow up with a light polish and/or wax. Works every time!!

Foot note though: do not let the product dry, nor use it on bare aluminum -- read the label for complete instructions
 
If the water is that bad to where it is staing and leaving rust spots I can only imagine what its doing to everything else it touches. I would have them invest in an inline water filter that can pull most of the contaminents out of the water.
 
The stains are on the sidding on the houses, driveways, anything that the sprinklers touch. The car looks much better and I will try your suggestions on the windows. Thanks everyone

you could have used the same product combo on the windows as you did on the paint;)
 
I tried the same steps on the windows but it did not completely work. It was an older car that is not taken care of so I had that aainst me. Thanks
