Help removing swirls...

Alright, I have my camaro ss that has a ton of swirls. Its a 2000, but I guess its been washed with crappy stuff and I am pretty sure it spent a lot of time outside. I can not for the life of me get the swirls out. I have tried, all of my pads... yellow, orange and blue. I have tropi-care swirl cutter, Maguires swirl cutter and Menzerna cutter, these were all medium aggressiveness. Do I need something more aggressive or am I doing something wrong here?

motoo344- Those are kinda vague product descriptions, so I can't really tell if you're using the best products for the job. But (based on my '00 Chevy Blazer's clear), IMO if you want to do any significant correction on hard GM clear via PC you need to use 4" pads. Probably need the most aggressive stuff that'll break down via PC too, something stronger than a "medium strength" product (which I'd use for the second of maybe three steps).

Sorry, I was mainly trying out the merzerna intensive polish.

"Menzerna Intensive Polish(IP) is designed to remove 2000 grit or lighter scratches, oxidation, swirl marks, water spots and other paint defects"

I was using the bigger pads though, Lake Country 6.5 inch pads. Sorry for the noob quetion, but what makes the 4" cut better? Because of more pressure focused on the smaller surface?

OK, thanks for clarifying. I haven't used that, but it might cut OK for you with the smaller pads.

Yeah, that and (perhaps more significantly) less friction due to the smaller surface area. IMO/IME the PC is pretty much overwhelmed by 6.5" pads, but with the 4" ones it can be so aggressive that you have to be a little careful. They really can make all the difference and I strongly recommend them for any significant correction via PC.

GM clear is pretty tough stuff. But I look at that as a good thing. Means you don't have to worry quite as much when using an abrasive. I used SSR2.5 and SSR1 with orange WG polishing pads on my PC last summer, it cleared up some of the lighter scratches but didn't do anything really for the deep stuff, just made them look lighter.

^ I'll second that, although I've found Menzerna SIP/LC orange to be a pretty good combo. Two passes with the PC (6.5" pads) does a pretty good job, and I'll escalate to PG (or SSR3)/LC yellow for the nastier stuff.

I've just started using 4" pads, and I love 'em! I bought them for heavily contoured panels and tight areas (i.e. A-pillars, near trim & door handles, yada yada) but I discovered what Accumulator mentioned...it's almost like a big increase in horsepower for the PC.
