I have a Mercedes SL that I put chrome covers on the side vent spears. They are held on with the 3M double sided tape and now I want to remove them. I thought that I would be able to simply pull them off but I have not had any success. Any hints as to how I can loosen them or make the tape less "grabby"

Thanks

Take a fishing line and hold both ends while running the line between the chrome and body. This will get it off. The tape you'll just need an adhesive remover.

I have done that several times on emblems, etc. The problem here is the chrome cover slips over the original fin and covers the top and the bottom of theoriginal. There is no way to get the line between the chrome slip on and the original. Here is a link that shows the fins: http://www.formymercedes.com/mb_results.asp?model=R230&class=sl-class&category=Chrome+Accessories

Try blasting the area with goo gone, or some kind of degreaser, or heating with a hairdryer to get the tape loose and pull loose then remove residue.

not sure which of these methods are "autopia-approved" but im sure theyll work...

Spray Goo Gone behind the cover to saturate the adhesive. Wait a couple of minutes and then try to gently pull it off.
