Help Needed: More abrasive polish or pad?

After reading the forum for several months, I took the plunge and ordered a PC7424 and a Pinnacle Advanced Swirl Remover Kit from autogeek.net to use on my Brillant Black 1993 Mazda RX-7. I'm the third owner of the car and the previous owners did a terrible job of caring for the paint.



As recommended on the forum, I started out trying to use the least harsh pad/swirl remover to address the deep swirls and scratches in my finish. My final work was done using a LC orange pad and Pinnacle Advanced Swirl Remover with the PC set at 5.5. Even after 3-4 rounds, using different amounts of pressure, the swirls and scratches are still more prevalent than I want.



Question to answer....

Should I upgrade to a LC yellow (more abrasive pad), or try a more abrasive polish?



I am considering using PoorBoy's SSR 2.0 or 2.5, but have also seen Menzerna IP recommended.

How abrasive is the Pinnacle SR?



On a neglected surface you'd need atleast IP or SSR2.5 with an orange or yellow pad, then finish with something milder.
 
I'm not familiar with the polish in question *or* the ones you're considering other than having read the ad copy for them. But I did have a 3rd gen RX-7 and it had hard paint.



I'd be surprised if the IP/SSR 2.5 were as aggressive as you'd like, but they'd at least be a safe step in the right direction.



I'd try a more aggressive product with the orange pad. IMO switching to the yellow won't be as beneficial. What *would* make a big difference would be to use 4" pads for the major correction.

Being new to the autopia level of detailing, it is hard for me to quantify the abrasiveness of Pinnacle Advanced SR to another product. It is the only one I have used. Based on the amount of work required to remove even the smaller swirls in my paint, I *believe* it is pretty mild.
