Help name our pup

wytstang

I see you.....
We are picking up our Blue and White Razors Edge Pittbull terrior Sunday :yay: . We had a name picked out for a male (Tank) but the males were few and the $$$ to high for them. So we found another breeder that breed blues and gave us a discount due to the wife being active military (God will bless the breeder for that :thwink: ), but she only had blue females (2) so we jumped on it before they were gone. We want a stong female name that has to be short as per wifes instructions. We are considering Athena (Goddess of the City, Education/Science, and War) or I just found Aeron :ae-ron: (The name of the ancient Celtic goddess of battle and slaughter). I actaully would like jezebel but she says it's to long =/. I told her lets name her Luci she liked it, then I told her it would be short for Lucifer and that didn't go over to well. Anywho throw some ideas for strong female names. Here are some pics the breeder sent us

Daisy Duke. A perfect name for a pretty little girl. It has many shorter variants - Daisy, Dukie, Daisy the Daze, Daze, or just 'Duh' if you want something really short.

As an added bonus, every time you call your doggie, you can think of the other Daisy Duke - Jessica Simpson in those little blue jean cutoffs and cowboy boots.

If you mention the association of your doggie's name with Jessica Simpson to your wife, you'll get out of traction about 8 months from now, so maybe another name would be better, come to think of it.

Butch, and Zena has been added to my list. Daisy Duke is not something I want to be yelling out loud around my neighbor(sp?) hood and or AF Base lol.

How 'bout Phobos and Deimos? From Greek methology, Phobos means "fear", and Deimos means "panic" and both are children of Ares (Mars) and Aphrodite (Venus). They are also moons of the planet Mars.

Pretty cool names, IMO, for Pittbulls.

...actually, I know someone who has named their 2 new pitch black kittens Phobos and Deimos per my suggestion. It really is cool explaining to people what their names mean.

My brother has named his Schnauzers after male and female republicans. For example, his giant Schnauzer pup is named "Condi". His miniature Schnauzer is named "Colin" (as in Powell), and one of his other regular Schnauzers is "W".

BTW, Phobos is my online Halo nickname.

Point taken, and I'm still laughing.

A lot of people have no clue what Greek god names mean. Besides pitts are strong dogs with muscular(sp?) bodies, would you name a Rottie bubbles??? or a bull dog pebbles?

wytstang- Cute pup!

I agree, I'd steer away from aggressive sounding names, especially with a PBT.

FWIW, we've named out last two females "Psyche". Strong sounding? :nixweiss but both dogs were the kind of K9s that nobody'd mess with and the name seemed to fit both. The intonation seems to work well for training too, they always "like" hearing their name.

But OTOH I can see somebody changing "Psyche" into "Psycho" in a courtroom :o You really *do* have to think about that these days :(

No, but it's good conversation, not to mention you can enlighten people about Greek Methology... imagine out walking your dog when you happen upon a stranger who is intrigued by your pet...

Stranger: "Oh, such a cute doggie. It's a Pitt, right?"

You: "Yep, sure it. Her name is Deimos"

Stranger: "Deimos? Such an interesting name. At least it isn't a common name like Gypsy or Lady. Is that a Spanish name, or Italian, or what?"

You: "Nope. It's Greek, and it means PANIC"

Stranger: "Oh, cool... great name for a Pitt! Tell me more..."

You: "Well, you've heard of Venus and Mars, the planets, right? These were named for Greek gods, and in Greek methology they had 2 offspring, Phobos and Deimos. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah...."

(so I'm sitting here bored that I can not be out detailing)

Gypsy seems to be winning the wife over and I like the name as well. We were going to name a male Tank cause it fit the breed. It wasn't an evil name like butcher or killer it just fit the size and breed so that's what we are looking for. Gypsy seems like a good all around name to me. The final name will be choosen a few days after having her and seeing how her personality is so nothing in written in stone sorta speak.

Funny you should say that. My two Bichon Frise are named Otus and Artemis and I'm constantly explaining those names to people.

Otus was the son of Poseidon who was "in love" with Artemis, the daughter of Zeus and sister to Apollo.

never could come up with a catchy name for mine-- named her "Princess", which is fitting because I treat my wife like a Queen & my dog is the Princess*
