Help! My hood needs some TLC!

While drying my car yesterday after a good bath, I noticed that my hood on my black VW GTI was looking pretty rough. It had some nasty swirls, hairline scratches, etc. The thing is that I just 3-stepped last week (3M SMR, IHG, Blitz wax) and now the swirls and scratches are back. I also noticed alot of haze on the hood in the clearcoat. What should I do to get my hood back to good condition again? Thanks
 
Sounds like the swirls were hidden by the IHG. Did you SMR with a PC and then examine the results to determine that the swirls were removed?
 
I did not use a PC when applying the SMR, but I did my best to rub it in thoroughly and then removed it completely before applying the IHG.
 
how long did you smr? It takes medium/fast people 1 hr to do a panel by hand. Thats on a medium car...



One reason why i am saving for a PC.
 
1 hour for a panel?? Hmmmp... I did the hood and front 1/4 panels of a 2002 S-class by hand twice in about 30 minutes and got excellent results.
 
You probably did not work the SMR long enough to break down the abrasives. I know I had those problems when I first started using SMR - by hand. Now I use a PC and it's fast, easy, and the results are perfect every time. I have even used Meguiar's Heavy Cut cleaner with the PC and the results were fantastic before the follow up with SMR. You just have to really work it in.
