Help me decide: QW+ vs. Mothers FX Spray

First of all, thanks to all of you for my new, addictive, compulsive, expensive, obsession. My wife hates you -- ironically however, she loves the way her new car looks. Seriously, though, due to all of your great info, the interior and exterior of her 2006 BMW 325xi should remain pristine for years to come.

We've had the car for a month, now. I've been bucket washing weekly (lambswool mitt, Megs gold class, Viking MF gold drying towel) followed by Megs QD. I'm placing an order for a foam gun and PB S&W and would like to add a quick wax that I can apply during drying. From recent posts, it seems that Mothers FX is a good (and cheap!) option, but a lot of you also swear by QW+. Can it be used on a clean, damp car, as well?

FYI - I'll probably apply wax just twice a year (fall/spring) and am leaning toward Natty's Blue, hand application.

I like to use optimum ocw but Im sure the 2 others would work well.

One thing I want to mention about waxing twice a year is this:

Waxes usually last 1-2 months

Sealants can last 3-6 months with some lasting longer.

So you will probably want to wax or use a sealant more than 2 times a year.

Glad to have you posting!

Greg

Okay, let's add sealant to the mix.

Again, this is a brand new car. How does this sound for my next wash (twice a year detail):
wash/dry completely/EX-P sealant/Natty's topper

Then, for weekly upkeep:
wash/QW+ while I dry

Between washes and in the winter:
S&W/QD

You will want to apply the EXP sealant at least every 3-4 months to keep your vehicle protected especially during the winter. Dont forget to add a polish to the mix if you dont already have some.

Do I need to polish if the paint is unmarred? Will EX-P bond to clean, but unpolished paint/clearcoat?

One more thing, will EX-P get along with a 3M clearbra?

There will be no issues with the EX and the clear bra and your freshly washed car....I would think about using PB P-w-C for the polish on your car it a dual action product cleans and protects at the same time...top that with your EX and then head for the paste wax....your wife will really hate you by that time:howdy

Yes the Pwc will be great!

I just blame it all on you guys...

wife: "Aren't you done out there, yet?"
me: "Honey, the DC guys say to wait 30-60 minutes, and then I have to add a second layer..."

Can I substitute Klasse AIO for the Pw/C? I have access to a neighbor's AIO supply.

Absolutely Klasse is great stuff and about the same as PB P-w-C it will clean up the minor swirls.....I would work in small area like 12 x 12 inch areas so that you can keep good control over the product...that will set you up for the next steps

beemerboy and Gregcavi both know what there talking about my advice would be to take there advice lol. But i know that aoi is a good product, gives a nice shine and is an ok polish hower the protection isnt the greatest. I find that it dosent last as long as other sealent so it will have to be done every few months. However OIA toppd with nattys is amazing.
Also the polsih with carnuba is probley my fav polish right now. Its hard to explain but it gives the paint a POP, almost like a halo. (ok so maybe ive finnaly gone off the deepend) but if i were you i would go with the PWC, (sealent of choice, klasse makes one thats not a polsih) and then top with nattys or nattys blue depending on the coulor of the car. The only down side is that it will take more time and you have to spend more time with the car... wat sorry thats a plus. So you have shine and time lol

Good luck with the desion, let us know how it goes and what you decided. Also we DCers love pics :)

Enjoy!

color is Sparkling Graphite Metallic (more grey than silver, but very sparkly)

so here's the final shopping list:

- foam gun
- PB S&W
- QW+ (just to clarify, and get back on the original topic, I can apply that while I dry, right?)
- Pw/C
- EX-P
- Natty's Blue

...if I don't place this order soon, I know it will just keep growing (grit guard, ultra plush MFs, WW drying towel... etc). This place is a money pit.

That's a geat order you can apply the QW while drying but if you are going to do P-w-C and rest that you are doing I would skip that for when you wash alone
