Help making decision on product.

I am having trouble deciding on purchasing certain products. Basically all I need to know is what will be great for removing swirls, marring and even heavier scratches. I know I wont be able to get rid of it all but it wouldn't help to try. ;) I don't mind spending a whole day cleaning my car. My car is a Navy Blue Metallic and I currently wash, claybar, and then use clearkote vanilla moose hand glaze and carnauba moose wax. It looks great but I have the spider webbings and marks all over.

I need something I can apply by hand.

I was thinking of the Sonus line SFX-1-3

Klasse Sealant Glaze

Natty's Blue Wax

4* UPP Spray or FK 495 (been reading the forums and say its great) I have been using Poorboys Quick Detailer and Spray and Wipe and loved both (and the smell)

That is what I was thinking of doing but I dunno about if I should use the SFX or go with like 4* Swirl Remover/Paint Protection or Poorboy's SSR1-3/Professional Polish?

My front facia has pretty bad road rash where it looks hazzed with a white hue from years of debris (99 TransAm w/ 97k miles/road raced) also what could be used on the rear bumper w/ exhaust stains? I haven't tried cleaning it much because I don't have a really grimey towel to waste. :chuckle:

Thanks for help.

Zentenk- Welcome to Autopia!

I've never used the SFX line so I can't comment on those products.

If you're working by hand I'd use 1Z polishes, hands down my choice for by-hand work.

If working by machine I'd use the discontinued but still available 3M PI-III RC (05933) followed by PI-III MG (05937). These work OK by hand too, but they're a bit of work.

There are innumerable other choices but those are the two approaches that work for me on cars like yours.

I would not use KSG or UPP on a vehicle I couldn't get basically perfect, they just show too many flaws (I do use them on two of our vehicles, but only the two I keep basically perfect). For a LSP I'd just stick with the Natty's, no sealant as it would just make the flaws jump out at you.

I'd get the front fascia repainted.

I'd try clay and a paint cleaner (e.g., Meg's Deep Crystal Step #1) on the rear bumper cover before using the polishes on it.

Heh heh, a whole day? I'd plan on a lot more time than that ;)

Thanks for the reply, I will check out the 1Z (Zaino?) and thanks for telling me about the Sealant. Could anyone else jump in about the SFX line or Poorboy's SSR1-3/Professional Polish?

I did a couple of details recently: one with Menzerna IP/FPII, the other with Poorboy's SSR 2.5/1, oth with great results. I'll definitely use them again. Fantastic products. By hand? I don't know.

I also have the SFX 1-3 polishes. But, when I tried them, I really had no idea what I was doing. I moved the PC too fast, used too low a speed and didn't give enough time to let the polishes break down. It was my very first try at using the PC.

But recently, after the SSR 2.5/1 detail I tried some SFX-3 using a blue SFX pad. I was pretty impressed with it. It had a long working time and did seem to give a little more pop to the shine.

Clarification- "1Z" is Ein Zett (German for "one z"), different from Zaino. Their polishes contain a little wax and the big thing about them IMO is the ease of use by hand.

I like having them all on hand but then I, uhm, "accumulate" stuff :o

The Paint Polish is the one you really oughta get. Buy this one.

The Ultra/Extra (forget what they call it these days) is a good bit more aggressive and might not be necessary. Last I heard they (1z) didn't really even recommend it on basecoat/clear paint, but I've used it on that many times with no problems. Got hard paint, or got nasty scratches? Then get a can. But be prepared to use a milder polish (e.g. the Paint Polish) afterwards to remove any micromarring (maybe you'll get it, maybe you won't). Handy stuff if you need it, waste of money if you don't. But IMO someday you will need it ;)

The MetallicPolishWax is *VERY* mild. I'd just think of it as a cleaner wax. If you have soft paint, or want something super gentle for either a final buff or to use regularly, then maybe you could use this. Most people find the Paint Polish finishes out well enough on its own, but yeah, I like to use this as my penultimate step, right before my LSP.

Note that with all the wax in 1Z's polishes, if you're really exhausted after doing the polishing you can just wait until after the next wash to apply your wax. The wax in the polish will last a few weeks on its own.

Sweet, I may have to get these then. I may even get a PC as well. I'm going to have a friend show me how to use the PC and use Zaino on my car until I get done w/ my performance mods next month to be able to purchase all the stuff I need.

What about the Glanz Wax?

I saw the before/after on the einszett website and holy crap, that car was crusty as hell and it looked like it was repainted. My car isn't that bad but you can def see some nasty marks/webbing and scratches. There is this really hot chick in the dorms w/ pretty bad/faded paint on her red Celica wonder if this would work like in their before/after? If not i'd be pissed, if so I may get lucky. lol j/k or am I? ;)

The 1Z polishes working great and they are DA friendly as they generally need low RPMs on a rotary, too.

I use Glanz but honestly I don't know what it is exactly, or how it fits into the big picture. The original formula is a solventy water-like thing which applies easily but removes a healthy portion of the previously applied layers, so that can be a compromise. It looks good on certain colors though. I use it with a micro-sprayer, because the solvents can flash off quicker from the atomized, fine droplets. It is milder that way and can build a heavier layer. A few spritzes of infinitely fine clouds onto the surface and wipe over immediately with a MF. Works good and pretty durable too. But if you live in a VOC-state, you won't find the original formula, only an average substitute.

IMO go with the 1Z polishes, Natty's Blue and FK1 425.
