Ok, i just got done putting my first coat of Z-2 on my car after doing three coats of Z-5 (with ZFX) this weekend. I did not use ZFX with Z-2 which i hope was ok. Was it? But my big concern came when i started cleaning out my viking foam applicator. As i was cleaning it with Dawn, i started "kneading" the applicator part to work out anything deep down in it, and i got what i thought was a whole mess of Z-2. Is this normal or what? I hope i havn't been spreading it too thin. I more or less make sure that i can just see it going on the car and that's it. I am guessing on this application i didn't even use 3/4 of an ounce of Z-2 either. Am i really screwing things up here?

No problem putting the Z-2 on top of the Z-5 wZfx. I have often done the same thing, sometimes a coat of Z-5 w/o Zfx.

I always get residual Z out of the applicator. With Z-6 and multiple coats, it's going to get absorbed. I use the same standard for applying, does not sound too thin to me.

This is a common issue with the Viking Foam applicators and I would imagine with any other foam applicator. Toward the end of my application of Z, I try to squeeze as much of the Z up to the applicator surface as possible and apply it to the vehicle. When I'm done, I take a clean paper towel and squeeze as much excess Z out of the foam and wipe it off with the paper towel. I then wash the applicator with Dawn liquid diswashing detergent and rinse and wring it out as good as possible. After the applicator is completely dry, it will still have white powdered dry Z in it. Because I'm concerned the powder will scratch the car, I slap the applicator and basically beat the powder out of it, then use my air compressor to blow any left over out of the foam. I've been using the same Viking applicator now for many months (at least 6 or 7) and it's never scratched or caused any problems I can detect, on my dark red Corvette or Cherokee, and the same holds true for my son's Black Prelude. I was going through so many cotton applicators it was costing me a fortune before. They only seemed to last a few washings and never looked clean whether washed by hand or machine.
