HELP! Glitter on seats!!

Well, I took my girlfriend to homecoming this past weekend... and she wore a dress... with GLITTER on it. And I realized at the end of the night what a mess the passenger's seat was. So I grabbed my household vacuum, used the hose and tried to suck all the glitter out... But only about 1/3 came out.



So I went to one of those gas station super vacs but that didn't do much, either. I'm not sure if you guys are familiar with the black Scion tC seats, but the fabric has this cross weave that creates little "pockets" or pores. It makes it really hard to get the glitter out. What should I do?? I really don't know what to try next. I will try to get a pic up ASAP, but (just my luck) my camera batteries are dead. They're on the charger and i'll have it ready for tomorrow. I have Folex and some cheap turtle wax foam available. Any chance those will help?

Lint brush helped on the side parts of the seat where the pattern isn't there. However, it made no difference on the rest (if anything it pushed the glitter in more).



And tape only removed trace amounts. As in after 2-3 minutes of pressing tape down and pulling it off, I had a visible amount of glitter on the tape. There was no visual difference on the seat, however.



This is really frustrating. My girl feels bad, but I have no idea what to do about it.
 
I was going to suggest a foaming type interior shampoo with a stiff interior brush myself. Have you tried it yet?



Not the quickest solution since you'll have to wait for the seats to dry, but maybe if anything, it'll loosen them up a enough for you to use NSXTASY's suggestion.



I have similar seats in my Vibe.



Maybe you should approve any outfit your girlfriend wants to wear before she gets in your car. That should go over well. :hide:
 
hahaha, tell me about the glitter man. I have a tC, and it seems that to a large extent, girls just naturally sweat glitter or something, even if they're just wearing regular clothes :D



But I guess really the only way to tackle it is the lint remover... otherwise I guess shampooing the seats and agitating them well is really all there is left to do. I really haven't figured it out myself, though. I agree, our seat fabric is comfortable and looks cool, but is a little difficult to clean :(

Well that's a real confidence booster.



I REALLY hope I can get it all out. When I look at my paint in the sun I see holograms that a body shop put in (need a whole free day to remove 'em all with the new UDM). So when I get inside I feel good. (spotless). But now it's like going from holograms to evil sparkly particles that have completely invaded my seat fabric. It's quite depressing. =/





And so I'm really laying down the :rules: with her considering we're going to MY homecoming this weekend.



Lol but we agreed to one thing: either she wears that dress and I borrow my mom's minivan, or she wears her other black dress that she likes and we take my car. Her choice.



Would an extractor help with this? I wouldn't mind paying a fellow autopian or other respected dealer up to $75 to make my interior spotless again.



I'm gonna try the lint brush/foam/pet hair brush/repeat combo a few times before I give up, though.
 
Naah that wouldn't make up for it. If anything I would just make her help me clean it =)



She's OCD just like me so i don't think there should be a problem haha.

I work at Banquest Center and we frequently have weddings, and of course all the girls have glitter everything, purses, shoes, bags, dresses..The carpet is covered in glitter all the time, vacuuming helps a little but last week we deep cleaned the carpet with an industrial carpet cleaner and the glitter was gone..that seems to be the only thing that does it for us, so I would try an extractor or even a wet dry vac..just spritz your seats with a bunch of water and see what happens
 
Thanks Joshua! I'll try to get a hold of one. Maybe I can rent a powerful wet/dry vac from a rental station or Home Depot or Lowes.



I tried to take pictures, but it's extremely difficult. Each individual piece of glitter "shines" at a slightly different angle so the camera only captures a fraction of them in one shot, especially in poor lighting with a flash. I guess it would be easier in the sun with the sunroof open. BUT in any case, here are the pics... it's much, much worse in real life.











Don't mind the cathode tube haha it's temporarily in that position. ;)
 
Try a little green clean machine...you can get one at wal-mart for like 60 bucks, its a pretty effective carpet extractor and after this is fixed you can use it to clean up your carpets on a regular basis.
