Help, gas smell

I have a friend that spilled gas in the back of her suv. How can I get the smell out of the carpet?

Thanks.

Remove it and throw it away.

i personally wouldn`t touch a gas spill. No real safe way to remove it. Use a vacuum and the vapors could ignite, towels can only do so much. Air it out as much as possible.

im sure someone can chime in with an idea. Surely someone has had to handle this before

assuming it didn`t make it to the padding, I`d just toss it and replace it

maybe some type of enzyme cleaner or something could work but I have no idea

How much gas? Pull the carpet if possible, open all windows and doors. If it is a small amount of gas use cotton rags to remove the excess and clean by hand. If it was a large amount of gas, run like hell. Lol. Seriously, gas evaporates rather quickly, but the fumes are highly explosive, so the amount of spillage matters greatly.

If you`re able to get rid of it short of replacing the carpet I`d like to know how you did it. Gas stays in carpet for the longest time. That said, you might want to rent an extractor and try some of Poorboy`s new extractor stuff. Sounds like it`s going to be a winner.

Takes a while to get rid of. Stuff called gas off after several applications followed by ozone machine worked in my last car when I spilled gas in the rear.

If you have access to a steamer, I would give that a shot. The high temperature of about 300F should help evaporate the aromatics that are causing the smell.
