help end the confusion

I've been browsing these boards off and on for a few months now and need some help deciding what products to try since I am at a total loss. My wife is getting me a PC 7336 and 2 sets of the LCM pads for Christmas. Now I dont know what polish and wax to use. Here are the factors going into my selection.

1) black 02 TA WS6

2) Paint has some swirl marks and other minor scratches.

3) Cant spend alot of money < $100 on all swirl remover, polish, and wax total.(just bought a house)

4) Plan on detailing every other week or so.

5) Currently have multiple layers of NXT wax on car.

So does anyone have some advice on what products to buy to satisfy the above? I'm looking for the deepest wettest look possible and to get the swirls marks out also.

Thanks for helping a newbie in advance.

Try the poorboys line up for great results and ease of use. I would get SSR2.5, SSR1, Klasses AIO, and Natty's or (maybe SG instead of Natty's). These for items will run a total of about 60 bucks with shipping. Then use the other 40 for GOOD MF's towels, and a yellow LC pad, and white polish pad. That would be the route that *I* would take.

Quick, easy and excellent on black.

#80 Speed Glaze with a polishing pad

NXT with a polishing pad

#16 Pro Paste Wax by hand.

About $45 worth of products.

Well you stated a limit of $100 and mentioned the deepest wettest look possible. I have to mention Souveran.

There are so many polishes that will work to remove swirls...My personal choice is 3M PI III MG, but that's the only one I've ever used. It works well for me, but it takes a while to deal with really bad swirls. If your swirls aren't very deep, then the 3M MG is a good choice.

Then follow the MG with a final polish. Somebody else will have to chime in with experience with a final polish suggestion.

Oh, and the MG is ~$30, so Souveran + 3M PI III MG doesn't leave you much money left.

So your saying to use the NXT wax AND #16 wax at the same time?

Yes. NXT would act as the sealant (it can't go on top because it has cleaners) and the #16 would be the carnauba topper.

I was just reading a post about Menzerna and was impressed with the results. Would this be a good combination to achieve the goals above?

Menzerna Intensive Polish

Menzerna Finish Polish

NXT

#16

That looks to be about $60 which would leave some change for more MF & a nice waffel weave.

Like Paul said, yes. Wait 24 hours before applying #16 over NXT so NXT can properly cure. #80/NXT is a great combo on its own but topping with #16 is like adding a layer of 'wet' on top.

If that is #80 and #16 then maybe I'll just go with that and the NXT like you said. From what i can see in your avatar, that is the look that I'm shooting for.

My suggestion would be to get something a little more aggresive than #80 for swirls... Hence my SSR2.5 proposal that I posted earlier. If you would like get #80 instead of SSR1 that should work just fine. Use your NXT instead of buying Natty's to save some money since you already have NXT and get #16 for some added durability.

So I guess my new suggestion would be:

Poorboys SSR2.5

Meg's #80

NXT

Meg's 16

Then the rest of the money spend on Waffle Weave MF and quality MF towels and maybe a QD. I suggest Eagle One wipe and shine <--- Available locally and is really good.

These would all work together nicely. :)

From your earlier inquiry about Menzerna, I have them, but Poorboys seems to be easier to use with similiar if not better results.

Just noticed the rules on the forum above asking that only those with 30+ posts, post in here and that newbies such as myself post in the university untill then. Admins please feel free to move this post to comply.

Thanks Paul, Scott, and 01bluecls for your help. I think I'll go with what 01bluecls just suggested and add the SSR2.5 to Scotts lineup. Maybe I'll practice first on the wife's TSX before hitting mine.

Thanks again everyone.

What did you use on your car for your avator pic Scott? Is that #80 and #16?

Actually, I think it was NXT/Wolfgang/Souveran.

Here is DACP, Speed Glaze (#80) and PwC all applied with a polishing pad topped with #16.

This is #80, applied using a Cyclo with the green polishing pads and NXT applied with a PC and a polishing pad.

Just FYI, blkwidow02, you won't be ending any confusion. Everyone has their own favorite combos on black.

Paul-yes, that is a Corvette hood.

Yeah I figured this would at least get me started and I'll try out other combinations as I go.

Have any of you tried the 3M Finesse It II polish? If so, what do you think of it and would it be a good replacement for the PB swirl remover? A buddy of mine that just got a cosmic purple GTO is trying it and loves it so far.

I haven't used many 3M products, I have a local Meguiars distributor and really like their 80 series products anyway.

3M makes some excellent products though, so does Poorboys.

I used it back in the day, but now I'd rather use a combo of two 3M products- PI-III RC (05933) is a *little* stronger and IMO easier to use and PI-III MG is milder and a better/safer go-to polish. Often you can get by with just the MG.

Nice work Scottwax (even I canâ€â„¢t find a word that is descriptive enough to describe the ultra high quality of your work, so â€Ëœniceâ€â„¢ will have to suffice)
