Help: Eagle One A2Z Wheel Tire Cleaner Issue

I recently purchase Eagle One A2Z Wheel and Tire Cleaner. I used this product on my 2003 Chevy Trailblazer as directed. Sprayed evenly on cool dry tire, left the product on for 30 seconds, spray off with water and dry immediatley. It worked very well at cleaning the tire and much of the brake dust.

Unfortunately, it changed the paint color of the Chevy logo on the plastic lug nut cover from gold to black/gray AND left a white haze with streaks on the OEM rims which I believe are coated.

I spoke to an Eagle One rep...he probably said that the tire was not cool enough and that I could take the product back and get a full refund. (Great)

Any suggestions how to get rid of this haze. I went to a local AutoZone, he suggested using this Mothers Chrome/Aluminum polish. After reading the directions, I realized this product is contra-indicated on coated rims.

I have Nu Finish Car Polish, do you think this may help or hurt my rim. Any suggestions for an over-the-counter product?

Thanks-Mike

I tried the Nu Finish Polish, it did nothing. Many of you probably knew it wouldn't, but I tried. I fearful my rims are ruined?

Any suggestions appreciated. I know there is somebody that can remedy this issue and advise on a product that won't create this result.

The picture shows a grayish logo..it should be gold.

If you have coated rims (clear coated), then you should be able to use a regular paint polish or a cleaner wax to see if that will remove them.

Good luck.

Welcome to the site from Sonoma County CA

Your rims are clear coated and the cleaner stained them...not to worry...get a paint cleaner, its a chemical based polish is all...you can get one at any decent auto supply store, Meguairs and Mothers all have them..Then using a cotton applicator use that on the rims, the stain will come right out...it will also work on your plastic part as well...going forward..mix the Eagle one with water. 50/50 sounds like its a bit strong for the rims you have..it will still cut the dust but not stain the rims!

Metal polish is an abrasive and is designed for non clear coated metals...your rims are clear coated so its not really metal that you are working on...try the above, I'd bet its going to work!

Excuse my ignorance and I am a little skepticle asking my local auto supply store for assistance.

Anything specific in regards to "paint cleaner", Will it say Meguairs or Mothers "paint cleaner". Is Turpentine or xylene an alternative?? or am I totally off base. Thanks again for assistance-Mike

Its not that big a deal asking for a paint cleaner...I use one on a lot of my details...Here is a link to what I am talking about, this should be available in your area.

As for what you have suggested, it might work but it would not be my choice, and its possible that it could further stain the rims, the stain is on the surface of the clear the paint cleaner will take it off.

Meguiar's Deep Crystal System Paint Cleaner [A3016] - $7.61 Car Care SuperStore, complete selection of Prolong Super Lubricants, Meguiar's car care products and Pitstop Auto products

Thanks everyone for the input. BeemerBoy, I have gone out and purchased Meguiars Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner..(this appears to be a beginning step to their system).

I have not had time to try it yet but will keep you updated. My wife is a Real Estate Broker and has been very busy in the evenings. I will check back with you soon-Mike

Mike

You are right a paint cleaner is something that you would use on your car to clean the surface...its chemical based cleaner...this should work just fine on the rims with a little elbow grease...looking forward to hearing back from you

I think the point is that the clear coat is just a more durable clear paint on wheels so this is why a paint polish is appropriate. If it works on the paint on the metal, it can be used o the wheels with similar restrictions - use least agressive method first like the paint cleaner or even a plastic polish will work.

Beemerboy and every body else thanks for your help. The paint cleaner has helped but it still is not to the original state.

Maybe if I keep putting paint cleaner and buffing it will return to original state.

Here are some pics from my first detailing process.

I'm am please for the most part, but I know it can be better someday with the right technique and products.

I would like to be able to get out scratches vs filling, and get rid of an abundance of tar in the wheel wells.

Always open to suggestions-Mike

How do you download pictures, I had to compress them to get them to upload and now I see you can't click and enlarge.

That is alot worse than I thought...seems like its etched the clear on the wheel...Can you feel any thing with the tip of your nail? This would tell me if there is any etching...

Sorry, that 1st picture is when I first started this post, it really is much better. I will try and figure out how to decrease the size of the picuture so you can compare.-Mike

The other pictures are of the completed detail. I am pretty happy with it.

Well here is a comparison of before and after in re: to polishing the wheel. It is much better, although not perfect.

I will keep trying the pain polish to see if it comes any better.

Can I put the Meguiars wax on the rim to deter brake
dust?
