help: clean exterior windshield

i just got a 2008 honda fit last month and notice a dull haze/film on my windshield. i've been trying to use the washer fluid to wash it off. it's a brand new car and thought maybe it would go away.



does anyone have an idea what this might be from? maybe some weird chemical the dealer would use to wash the car while still on the lot?



any help would be appreciated...

just wondering...is this good for a brand new car? but, i have heard about using steel wool.



it's strange, the glass is clean, but there's a spotted haze (you can see where some water or some sort of chemical might have sat on the windshield) when i spray it with the window jets and run the wipers.
 
I know this sounds very strange...but i notice mine doing this when i use a specific soap...I used Meguair's D-Line Shampoo Plus and it would always haze just my windshield..but since switching soaps i havent encountered the problem anymore...weird i know but the haze grabbed my attention so i thought i would share my personal experience...but i understand this may have nothing to do with it :nervous:

Sounds like your soap isn't rinsing off completely.
 
First, get some good glass cleaner (like Invisible Glass) and clean it inside and out (making sure to dry it ALL off - or else there will be hazing/waterspots). Go over it twice with separate dry towels.



If you use the steel wool, just make sure to wash it all off once you get done or little particles will hold onto your glass and rust, leaving that orangish color on your glass. Then you have to clean it again... other than that, it works great.
 
it's definitely not in the inside of the windshield.



so i washed the windows yesterday using 0000 grade steel wool. i used the water/soap mixture that i used to wash the car. the haze/spots are still there.



i notice that the window doesn't bead water like the other windows. when i use the wiper, the water doesn't glide off - i 'flows' off.



should i be using a true glass cleaner?

Thats what I was just thinking.. I work at a Dodge dealership and all the new vehicles all have that haze you mentioned and it's always on the inside..
 
I obtained a container of A-MAX to clean my windshield (used by local windshield install place) and it seemed to help. It its a chemical cleaner with a mild polish. Stoners nor Surf City could remove it after numerous attempts. I need to see how it does in the rain, etc to see if it is really gone but I can tell when cleaning with glass cleaner...it is much smoother when dry (MF does not grab).
