Help! - Ballpoint Pen on Leather Seats

GLT Automotive

Hello All ---

I know someone else out there has come across this...A friend of mine has a child who wrote on their leather seats in their BMW. Ballpoint pen...

Anyone have any suggestions on getting this out? My first thought was simple green (I know some people out there use that for everything, but not sure if that will stain the seats).

Please Help!!!!

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!!! (I have confidence that someone will know what to do [with all the knowledge in these forums] --- If nobody here knows, I'm going to tell them to go and have new leather put in).

I've not used that particular one but I've used a similar type product and it works great. This evening, I'll look up the name of the product I have in my garage now. I got it locally from a leather furniture store.

In fact, if you have a leather furniture store in town, I'll bet they have them in stock just waiting for you ...

First check the link here

The one experience I have personally had, I used a solvent I bought at an office supply store. It reduced the stain, but didn't completely remove it, but.... After a month or so, it seemed to start to disappear on its own. After about 6 months, I could no longer see it. Whether the solvent continued to break the ink down or if the ink just faded, I don't know.

I just talked to a leather importer, and he suggested 1) hairspray 2) rubbing alcohol
for things you probably have around the house.

Make sure you condition the leather afterwards.

:yeah

Use a little and dab with alcohol, don't rub.

Never used hairspray on leather though.

Please let me know the results.

ahh I've heard about using hairspray too, it's because of the alcohol in it..
(please don't use mousse or something like that) :-p

Good luck and do update us on what works for you :)

Leather Masters is the name of the cleaner I have. It was part of a three product kit. cleaner Conditioner and ink remover.

As far as hairspray goes - it doesn't seem to be as effective as it once was. Maybe the VOC rules have removed the chemical that did the magic. :dunno No ink stains over the past couple of years were removed by hairspray from my efforts. I had better luck with Stoner's Xenit.

But for ink on leather - that little chap stick like stuff works wonders.

Hi Guys ---

Just wanted to follow up...with the results...My friend actually used Dawn dishwashing detergent (w/ a cloth) and it took most of it out...there were some stubborn spots (on the glovebox, etc) that she was able to get out w/ some rubbing alcohol...

All of the suggestions were great...next time I go into a leather furniture store I am going to pick up some Leathermasters...that stuff sounds like it will do the trick w/ alot of problems on leather...

THANKS AGAIN!!!!
