HELP AUTOPIA! How to fix this tear in leather? Pictures inside!

A tear has appeared in the side of my leather seat in my 1999 infiniti.



How do I repair this?



It doesn't have to look good - I just want to, maybe, seal this up? Something so that the tear won't get any larger than it already is.



Please, all advice, product names, any help is greatly appreciated.

haha well duct tape is a little too crazy for me. When I say "i dont care how it looks" i mean maybe i can have some sort of glue on there, not a small strip of duct tape LOL

It looks like vinyl rather than leather which means it is even weaker material, but either way a repair tech should be able to do a near invisible repair quite easily. Call one up and say you can't pay any more than $75. That would be the best way. Or...



To get by, you can carefully glue the underside of the pieces curling up, using something very tacky like one of the 3m adhesives found in an auto parts store(probably not superglue since it will harden it and make matters worse) About 20 to 30 seconds after applying, take a heavy flat object or plastic spatula and attempt to hold all the curls down where you glued. If you're lucky about 3 to 5 minutes of holding, it will then hold by itself. When you let go you might be able to carefully scrape the excess off so not much of it shows. Coloring it is another matter altogether. And if the material is brittle to begin with, it may eventually come apart from repeated sitting.

Does not sound like much to me. In fact, at that low rate, I would want to see if they could deliver quality results before they do a repair for me.

Isn't the average price of a new home something like $3 million?:) My retail minimum is $125. This would probably be my minimum. If you just want a cheap repair, then try a clear flexible glue. I have used VLP in the past, but Home Depot didn't have it last time. I grabbed some other stuff that seems to work pretty good. Just look at all the glues at HD and see what they have.

I didn't notice you were in San Diego. Probably is a little more down there. It's also a little more up here in Canada. That's about what I would quote also, though I'd only get $75 from a dealer. Sorry, I was trying to save you a little money.
 
You can use some adhesive from PERMATEX, they have differents types and it may help you!

I will go check glues at home depot. As much as I would love to do the $125 repair and get it done right, I am extremely tight on funds right now and this QX4 is definitely becoming my daily driven beater. It is used for hauling raw restaurant supplies three times a week, including dripping wet chickens, beef, shrimp, fish, onions in large net bags, my car is also offroaded, goes camping several times a year, goes to Baja Mexico at least twice a year for excursions,



So i'm not sure that I need a $125 leather repair in this type of vehicle!!

If you don't care to spend the money, then a flexible glue could be your ticket. Another cheap alternative would be hot melt or hot glue. You can find this at Walmart. A gun and some glue should not be more than ten dollars. The cheap glues that they sell there aren't going to hold up to temperature extremes or rough abuse, but it should get you by for the short term.
