I have been lurking here for a few weeks, and thought I would get started with an intro. Like many here, I am a newbie to detailing as a trade/profession, etc. I am very fortunate to find this board, and it has been very informative. I am sure it will be in the future as I get into it more. I am in the San Diego area, so detailing is very doable pretty much year round with our weather. Sorry, don't mean to rub it in:lmfao

I have a decent background detailing my own vehicles and my boat. As far as many of the other aspects, I am sure I have a lot to learn, and have already gained quite a bit lurking here. I do plan on getting additional training from various sources in the areas that I have little experience in. I have purchased a very nice open trailer set-up with presure washer, extractor, hot water heater, generator, reclamation, and a pretty good starter package of chemicals, brushes, MF, etc, as well as a PC and rotary.

Did my first complete detail the other day for a friend. Really turned out well, and learned a few things along the way. Finishing in the dark is not good. Did some touch up the following day. Will start earlier next time, but was not sure how long it was going to take, and had a couple distractions along the way. Spent about 5-plus hours all together.

My plan is to focus mostly on complete or mini details, as opposed to quickie $30 washes, although I am open to just about any jobs right now, just to get a good customer base going. I have a ton of friends who have work waiting in the wings for me. I am focusing mainly on vehicles, but am very much into wakeboard and ski boats (on trailers - in driveways), and have quite a few of those waiting for me also. I have little experience in polishing/scratch and oxidation removal on boats. My boats have always been pretty new, and have only been cleaned and waxed. I will hopefully gain more experience in this area since I am focusing on boats quite a bit. I have already done a search here and read just about all the info on boats. I have also had a couple inquires from friends with motorhomes and toy haulers.

Like I said, I have a bunch of work waiting for me. Just getting a couple permits finished up, business cards, etc. Problem also is that I work full-time shift work, so my schedule is pretty bad right now. Hopefully get up and rolling so I can bail out of this place. Only good thing about working here (on a holiday, no less) is that I can get on here and leave these long-winded posts while I am getting paid!:yay

Sorry for the long post. I am a member of a couple other boards (not detailing-related), so I know how addicting they can be. I am sure you will be seeing and hearing more from me very soon.

Take care, and enjoy your Turkey Day:bigups

Welcome to DC!, so what kinda of chemicals are you using. as well as.. where are the pictures of the trailer, cumon here we need pictures.

But seriously, welcome to dc

I will get some pics up as soon as I can. Love my trailer set-up.

As far as products, most of mine are from "Pro Products". I purchased my trailer and supplies from Detail Supply Outlet. I am sure I will also try others, but I have been pretty happy with what I have. Eddie at DSO has been great to work with. I searched around a while when I was looking at equipment, training, and supplies. I went to Rightlook a couple times, but just did not get a good feel from them. Also seemed very expensive! I may still take their 2-day intro course. Quite a bit of info for beginners. Like I said, great treatment at DSO.
