Who inspects their sponges and mitts when washing their cars? Last night I was almost going to take a comb and comb out any particles in my mitt. I pulled out little pieces in the sponge that I use. There's got to be a better way.

inspect my mits each and every time i use them. I just purchased 2 wash mits from Tim at TACS and boy-o-boy are the nice and plush. One of the new TACS mits is about twice the size of the Viking mits i got from Wal-Mart. As for the sponges i use, I'm not to worried about them because I only use them on the tires with EF hi-intensity.

I always give them them an eyeballing and wash them often but when in doubt I either toss mine out or relegate them to underbody and grubby areas. I figure at 5-8 buck each I can toss them every few months.

You should always run water backwards (from the inside of the mitt) to flush out and straighten the fibers. I also machine wash the mitts every two or three car washings.

Never use sponges on the paint.

In regard to the use of sponges on paint, that was my thought as well. That's why I had to ask what type of sponge he was referring to. Closed cell sponges only serve to act as sandpaper against the finish - but you already knew this. :)

I use a sponge for my windows. It's the same sponge I used to use on my car before I moved to a higher Klasse. It must be a magic sponge cause back in the day I used it, it worked fine. But I was always meticulous in keeping it very clean. It didn't scratch my car paint the for the first year I was using it for.

I'm in Mississippi and will be detailing 3-4 cars here this week.

Approx 30 miles south of Memphis.

Drove approx 375 miles in just about 6 hours with stops.

Here is the line up:

72 911 red
83 240d in beige
59 Impala red
Maybe a quick cleanup on a 49 MG TC.

Since I forgot my card reader, no pics till I get back.
I'm starting at 7:30a tomorrow, I'd better get some

Say hi to all the Waffle Houses you fall into after a hard day/night at the buffer! :) :) :)

Did you say you were working at the Elvis Presley Estate ?? :)

Good luck, we know they will be in various states of stun-gun when they see their vehicles done...

Best,

Thanks Dan!

Got the 240d done today.

Finally got to see the 59 impala. It is very large. :w00t:

My PTG tells me that the mostly original paint is very thin and there is more then a few areas where the paint is chipped away. So after consulting with the client, he decided that I should polish the 49 MG TC instead tomorrow. He is taking the TC to a show this w/e, so the paint will look great for him.

He is considering having the impala repainted, so he wants me to come back and polish it after it gets painted. He also asked if I could detail his Cessna, so looks like I will be coming back.
