Hello and help

Greetings everyone. The wife found a used minivan a few days ago and we decided to buy it, very low miles and NO odors, or no odors until she picked it up and brought it home.

It seems that the detailer at the dealership used a very pungent product that smells of cherry, more or less-it must be nuclear powered as the fragrance literally clings to your clothing and hair, its horrible.

Please tell us that the -stink- will dissipate.

guessing it will. might have sprayed it into the air vents etc. Also check for any cardboard freshener pads under the seats etc...might have hidden something down there. If you want to get rid of it quicker you can clean the interior panels, dash etc with an interior cleaner. You can also clean the upholstry etc with some light brushing and shop-vac. Run the AC (recirculate OFF) with fresh air.

Lastly you can follow up with an odor neutralizer spray.

It sounds like there is a hidden air freshener or two someone in your vehicle. Look under all the seats, between the seats and everywhere that it could possibly be. The scents that I have used/use only last a couple days at most. The only other thing I could think of is that the scent was infused into the extraction shampoo and part of that still remains on all the carpeting/seats.

mini1, dublifecrisis, thank you for the replies. I almost put a note in the van stating that no interior detail was to be done, really wish I had-its just that I never thought anyone would stink up the only used car in the world that did not smell like a used car.

48 hours with the windows open and a fan going, no change, frustrating as heck.

May have to look into a ozone thing, or perhaps the 'auto vaccine' but don't know if these really work.

I feel your pain...

I recently purchased some Poorboys Cherry Freshener, and spritzed it in the footwell areas of one of my cars. Big mistake! That stuff is really strong, lasts forever, and it reminds me of a few bad taxi cabs i've been in, where they tried to overpower other odors with the cherry like odor. I think Poorboys makes some very good products, but I'll never use that stuff again!

I countered it with some Febreze Extra Stength. It seemed to help, but doesn't last that long so needs to be reapplied every 4 or 5 days. Its been two weeks now, and the remnants of the cherry stuff is finally fading. Good luck!

mirror, thanks for a little hope; I am going to call the dealership and have them ask the nitwit what product was used.
