Hello again Canadians/Vancouverites - more stuff I found :p

I feel like I'm in some kind of wierd purchasing department or something - I'm always finding detailing stuff. Just call me the Wax Hunter (like that Food Hunter guy) :p

Anyway I was in Home Hardware today and found out their household cleaning section has a truly bewildering variety of cleaning products! Prices were not bad either. One thing of special note I stumbled across was Plexus. I ran a quick search and it seemed no one could find this stuff in Canada so here it is. Priced at $11 a can, it seems pricey, but this price compares well to the $8 US for Plexus at places like CMA. :up

While I was there, the nice lady helped me find out their regular prices for Porter Cable machines 7424 and 7336sp were $220 and $210 respectively. (Yes, the 7336 is cheaper.)

At the Richmond night market last week, some people there were showing off Protect All. If I remember right, I think they were selling the aerosols and the big spray bottle ($20 for that). Unfortunately they didn't sell the Quick and Easy Wash, but they told me they could get it and that they were a distributor. This might be a closer place to get it than all the RV centers way out in the boonies. Here's their info off a business card:

Brian, thanks for the info. Do you know what the home hardware part # is for the 7424 and 7336?

Do they stock the machines on the shelves like CT or is it a special order item?

Thanks man.

Well the store I went to didn't have any on hand (had lots of other stuff though) and she basically got a PC catalog to look up the PC part numbers and then went on a computer to look up a phone number of their warehouse/distributor. Sorry, I didn't get a HH part #. :( She said they had them in the warehouse and it wouldn't take long to get one in.

I personally think stock varies from store to store - I haven't seen too many PC orbitals in any of the CTs around here either. :nixweiss

I happened to notice the Porter Cable DA Polisher on sale at CTC for 199.99 (CDN). Also, I've seen some Meg Pro series polishes and waxes (i.e. #26, #9, #7, #40) at only one of three CTC stores, that I frequent, in the Ottawa/Kanata area. The prices range from 12.69 to 13.89 for a 16 oz bottle.

Cheers

Was this recently? I know they had a sale a while back where it was going for 179.99. Thier internet site is currently selling it for 239.99.

where can I get Zaino products? any recommendations on how to detail a dull black hood with swirls all over?

I would go with the following:

1. Wash with a high quality auto shampoo (Meguiar's Gold Class)

2. Clay to remove imbedded contaminants

3. 3M SMR with a W8000 Meguiars cutting with Porter Cable DA buffer. Otherwise - I'd go with Meguiars No. 9 SMR v2.0 by hand with foam disposable pads.

That should get out 70% of the scratches.

The deeper ones will be more problematic by hand to deal with as you'll need to polish until your arms fall off to get rid of them.

Good fine abrasives are 3M Finesse It II, 3M Perfect III, Meguiars Dual Action Cleaner Polish and No. 2 Fine Cut Cleaner. Of those, I'd try the DACP by hand first or the 3M Perfect III. With an DA or Orbital - try anyone of those.

The even deeper ones may require some very light wet sanding with 1500, 2000 or 2500 grit wet sandpaper.

I wouldn't go with any sealants until you take care of the scratches as Zaino/Klasse will really bring them out. Go with No. 26/Blitz or S100 for a carnuba until the scratches have been dealt with.
