Hellish Weekend - v. Black cars raped by the carwash

What a weekend!

Temperatures plateau'd around 90 or so degrees and the sun was rarely blocked by a cloud. I detailed three extremely tarnished, black vehicles. The culprit in each case was all the same, automatic car washes :(. I'll keep this short on text, long on photos, as in this case, I think it fits best.

First up, 1995 Maxima.

R.I.D.S. every couple of inches, heavy swirling, oxidation, tar, contaminants, ferrous oxide, failing, etc. Pretty much, "you name it..."

-Zaino Z18 Clay

-Goo Gone to remove tar

-Hi-Temp Extreme Cut/Optimum Car Polish (50/50) via rotary and LC Cutting Pad @ 1700 rpm x 2 (x3 on hood)

-Optimum Car Polish via rotary and LC Polishing Pad @ 1400 rpm

-Menzerna PO106FF via rotary and LC Finessing Pad @ 1500 rpm

-Zaino Z6 Wipedown

-Zaino Z5 Pro

-Zaino Z16 on tires/wells/trim

-Zaino Z8 on glass

As you can see, I got a bit of streaking. I think it was due to the poor overall condition the paint was in and the lack of life it had left.

Next up, 2006 Impala SS.

Age didn't matter on this one as it was also abused by continuous tunnel washes. I was able to get the entire car to about 99% and the hood to about 95% (some stray marring). I went as hard as I'd like on such a new car.

Next up, another 1995 Maxima.

Twice repainted and terribly at that. More tunnel washes and heavy scratching and swirling. I was LUCKILY able to work in the customer's garage for this one and boy did it pay off!

Next, a 2004 E500 Sport.

Finally a car with minimal defects. This one came out great, as it should since the owner cares very well for it.

Last up, a brand new Porsche 997 C4S Cabriolet.

I am in love with this car, period. More on it when I detail it, but for today, it just got washed with TOL's Bubble Bath, and QD'd twice with Zaino Z6. I hit the tires with Z16. Enjoy.

wow, all the cars looks amazing! i can see why you feel in love with that one:) the side of that impala made me cringe!!! they all look awesome though! i gotta hit you up and try out some new products. i got sick of buying new stuff and finally decided to just use up what i have, but it's getting time to reinvest and i know you always got the latest and greatest. i havn't been commenting much on here, but all your details are awesome. keep up the awesome work bro.

Car-gasm from the Porsche!!!!!!! Awesome details Sean! Black is the hardest to perfect but you pretty much pulled them off!

Sean I have just found out for tar, bugs, residue, sticky residue, 3m's Wax, silicone and adhesive remover I picked up at the local autozone works wonders for all the above....I find it more effective then GooGone, although GG does work well.

Holy crap!! What a run of foul paint.

Do you find that EC/OP is more effective when *not* used in the sun?

Very nice work, love the porsche

Great work Sean - although an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of detail.

(I see that your rotary polish doesn't do much for DENTS! hehe)

You'd think by now, in an age of robotics and machine vision that "we'd" be smart enough to invent an automated car wash that did the job without damaging the finish.

hmm... robo-detail ?

Thanks :).

Chris: Thanks for the note, I will keep my eyes peeled.

Joe: It works soo much better out of the sun. The Maxima (2nd one) that I did in the garage definately would have not turned out that good unless it was done in the garage; I even told the owner that. I was able to work it in for many passes and slow ones at that. The results speak for themselves.

abbeysdad: Claim what they want, I have yet to see an effective, yet safe automatic wash. The hand wash shops do much better work, but their regimens are still bunked.

Thanks again!

DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMN!!! Looks good! Especially on teh 2nd Max that looked like it had the MAACO.....hell KRYLON touch put on it! That first or second pic you can tell how horrible the respray was! Geez! Nice turn arounds!

fantastic transformations Sean!!! All of tnem. But than again, that is what I expect from your posts every time.
